Mosquitos

What do you guys do about mosquitos?
I hate spraying myself, but also hate bites (allergic).
So many gizmos on the market, wondered what folks found that actually works. Essentially, we try and fog if we're going to hang around in the evening, and...spray ourselves when necessary, but...I hate it!

we spray and use tiki torches. we also bring along our screened in tent for eating. the no-see-ums are even worse on the annoying factor. haven't found a cure for them or the black flies yet (and no the penny in a bag of water trick doesn't work).

Penny in the bag of water is for repelling flies and have seen it work. As for mosquitoes, I tried my free BugBand and it worked last night sitting in the garage with the doors open which I couldn't do before.

Some folks find Bounce fabric softener sheets carried on belt help others Skin So Soft, Amway or someone like that.

skin so soft is very good, we used to use it on the horses. it repels horseflies and deer flies also. Avon makes a sunblock with bug repellant in it also.

If you ever wondered why that person in the pop up [now a Roo] was running a fan next to the camppfire at night it probabily was me, I also hated the bug sprays until I read that mosquitos are not strong flyers, I threw a fan that we used to dry up the in-laws basement and it really works, no mosquitos, no spray.

This and TiKi Torches w/Citronella oil are our first line of defense.
100% DEET spray is the second.

The fan is a good idea. We keep one running by door to rig most of time so they dont get inside. Also I spray Listerine Mouth wash which I put in a cheap spray bottle. I spray the sittiging area near the awning and also in screen room. Won't hurt you and if it does get on hands it may taste bad with your hot dog but not kill you. When it stops working just spray again and its cheap. CarolT

I have tried bounce dryer sheets, different sprays, clip ons, etc; the one product / gadget I have had the best success with is thermacells.

I usually run two in the evenings to cover the complete area we are sitting.

We have been using 100% DEET around our house, along with Tiki torch oil that has Citronella and Cedar. A friend of mine, last year was using an attractant that was fueled by propane, and the gadget sat on top of the 20lb cylinder. It lured all bug, (emphasis on no see ums and skeeters) to his back yard. We were in his front yard all evening without any spray on, or having any bug issues. He told me that a 20 lb cylinder would last about 8-10 afternoons and evenings (used it only on weekends) as the valve was just cracked open. I certainly wish I knew what the product was, but the description may help.

The OFF Clip On works surprisingly well so long sa you are not doing a lot of fast moving around.

I use the Off Clip On Mosquito Repellent. I have found that it works very well. I'll spray the regular Off on my clothes and into my hands to pat around my face if I'm going into heavy woods. While I can handle some skeeter bites, I don't like ticks, or chiggers. You don't know how many of those things are on you until it's too late, then you're "eat up".

We use outside fans to help keep cool during the day. At night I point the fans at the RV door to keep the mosquitoes from lurking nearby, waiting for the door to open. Seems to work, no mosquitoes in the RV lately.

I'm going to find an outdoor fan, buy some bug bands since the website says you can swim, etc and they still work. Plus, no refills to hunt down. Also, gonna give Avon skin so soft a try and keep fogging. Can't fog in state parks, but this is a private CG and no rule against it that I'm aware of. Thanks again.

Strange as this may sound (especially coming from the male population) if a chigger gets you, use clear nail polish to cover it. It takes care of the issue. My mother taught me this when I was a kid. Also, we have used "after bite" for skeeter bites. It takes the itching away.
