Murphy bed problems part I
We love our 2017 2504s and especially the convenience of the Murphy bed. However, it is weak and cheaply made. First off, we are not overweight. So that is not the problem.
The first indication of a problem is it got harder to clip the slid hooks that keep it upright, when not in use. The bolts no longer lined up with the holes.
This was caused by the piano hinge pulling the screws out from the main support at the bottom. See pic and notice the ends of hinge not flush with the wood. The piano hinge was poorly installed with small screws. This you cannot see from inside the camper. You MUST cut the panel out from inside the front compartment. This will reveal the area that the head of the bed is stored when not in use. See pics. I was able to slide my body into this compartment and add new screws and drill holes for 4 bolts, washers and nuts! This access is now handy when something is dropped into this void, and for cleaning. The panels are able to be secured back in place by adding some wood trim pieces and Velcro. See pic.
