I have a 6 terabyte portable HDD I use, about the size of a deck of cards hooked into a laptop, soon to be a raspberry Pi. Connected to the tv. The laptop and HDD stay in the TT hooked. One time hook up and never changes as I have over 1500 movies on it. once in a while I will add some new ones but unless it rains we are out and about. Even in the rain we maybe at a museum or historical building.

My 32-inch Vizio smart TV will play jump drives through the USB, but my non-smart Vizio's, which have USB ports, don't.

But, my Sony BluRay player and PS3 will allow to to play movies off of hard drives or jump drives using both players remote controls.
