New Campground

Just wanted everyone that travels I81 in Virginia that there is a new campground opening near MM 162 in Buchanan VA 24066.

It is not too far off I81, it is basic, and it is on Rt 11 just west of the Town of Buchanan. It is at Limestone Park a community Park owned by Mill Creek Baptist Church. Pool, Pickle ball courts, James River access, and more. It is a learning experience for them.

It has water and electric sites with a dump station.

Buchanan is near Virginia's newest state park, Natural Bridge, Dinosaur Adventures II, Natural Bridge Zoo, Lexington with VMI, Washington and Lee, and Civil War History.

Buchanan is a very small town and has James River Rafting, small shops, and food and the historic swinging foot bridge over the river. Just 5 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Buchanan does have a small RV dealership.

About 30 or so miles from Roanoke VA. And 50 or so from Virginia Tech.

Any idea of when they might open? I need a spot but by May 15 for on our way home from Pigeon Forge, I usually use Lee Hi Travel Plaza, but they have no site to fit us, might try the Horse Farm as they have w/e sites

I am not sure of the site size but I do believe that they just opened or prices. These may not fit either but for over night the gravel area in the front has overnight electric and maybe water.

When I get a chance I need to go by and take a couple of pictures'. I looks like they used the old baseball field area.

Thanks for the info, and the links, another possibility and the location splits the drive up just about what we prefer to do. If you get over to check it out that would be great to know for sure, especially for our size rig. Just doing a overnight stop

Thanks for the heads-up! I like that area. I've overnighted in the Buchanan area on several Gold Wing trips (usually the Blue Ridge Pkwy.), specifically the Wattstull Inn north of town. Good to know there's another camping option.

Going to roll the dice and try this place to overnight on Sunday the 15th, the site says they have 4 over night spots first come first serve in their upper lot, should be able to arrive there mid-afternoon.

OK I can update info as we are here now for an overnight stay, it is very nice, and everything is brand new. Yes, they used the old baseball field and have about a dozen sites in the lower section and 4 in the upper lot, just w&e with a dump station in the lower section, we will have to back out of the dump station as the exit is too sharp for our set up. $33 a night and site is long enough for truck and 5th wheel but I did put the wheels all the way to the end of the gravel pad, we would use here again but PLEASE do not spread the word a lot let's keep it our secret
