peppermint oil / mice
I have read on this forum and others that 100% pure peppermint oil works to keepmice from getting into the trailer.
I am going to use this and was hoping someone could tell me how they apply it.
I read where its put on cotton balls and placed in a baggie with holes, how much do you apply and how often should it be replaced.
thanks

Did it last year. Not sure if it worked or not. No mice so I guess it didn't hurt. The trailer smelled good also while in storage. We just put drops on cotton balls than put a few little foil trays with them around different parts of the trailer.

We do pepermint oil soaked cotton balls oin little cloth sacks that hang strategically. Additionally, we cut the bottom off of a few soda or water bottles, and used themm as "dishes" for more soaked cotton balls. (If you cut the bottles carefully, you can leave the UPC in place, and still get your nickle deposit!)
We scatter then throughout the interior, in cabinets, and in outside storage. Once we cover-up, they are in there until spring.
We have these, we scatter a box of Bounce, and we have two plastic tubs of the dehumidifying crystals that we leave inside the TT from November through March.

sounds easy- so just a few drops (like a 1/4 teaspoon per ball?). about how many do you put out?

I'm going to try the peppermint also. in the past I have used moth balls but it takes several days to get the smell out. I read to put moth balls out side by the tires and jack to deter the mice from getting in.

I also ran an extension cord with an ultrasonic rodent repellent. make sure that you aim it so it can "bounce" the sound off the bottom of the camper and stays dry (advise from the manufacturer), I put mine on top of the axle in the center. I did this last year also.

Did I get the right oil? I bought peppermint oil, it came in a small bottle, holds about a tablespoon full and cost $2.00. Pretty expensive stuff. About enough for 1 cotton ball. LOL. Will try it this week, when I visit the trailer.

Where do you get this? Local grocery store? Just checked my TT and found remnants of mice. We live in the country so this is going to be an ongoing issue.

when i ask the store mgr abt it, they didn't think they carried it. when i looked in the spice section, it was there. it was more than one store that had it but hadn't heard of it. apparently, it isn't a commonly asked for item.

I found the best place to get oil of peppermint is at a health food store or at a vitamin store.

Ok cleaned up the mice poop and put the peppermint oil throughout the TT. Time will tell. Found mine at a local vitamin shop $1.49 out the door. This stuff smells great too.

I put some in my trailer, just before Christmas. Was there the other day, couldn't smell it and there was some mouse poop there too. Also they ate the peanut butter in the trap, without setting it off. Doesn't seem to work for me.

Peanutbutter is an attractant! It will overpower the pepermint. You can't do both!!!!!
