Pizza stone in oven?

I’ve heard a good hack to even cooking temp in the oven is to put a pizza stone in the bottom. Looking to do that but have a few questions.

1. Does it matter if square or circle? Didn’t know if airflow around matters. Our oven just has the single burner down the middle.

2. Do I put it on the black bottom of oven that’s on top of the burner? Or just on the baking rack and cook on top of it?

I put my round stone on the shelf just above the burner. All I know is it helps. A lot. I told my wife we will now cook all Stromboli in the RV oven. Even when at home. Click image for larger version

We are on our second stone. The first round one exploded (broke) during use. It was a cheap one from world market. We currently have a really thick square one that rides on the bottom shelf/grate and not on the sheet metal burner cover/surface. It works great.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The pizza stone distributes the heat around the edges of the stove to keep your food from burning down the middle. Just remember that if you set a pan or the food directly on the stone, it will need to be preheated or your food will not be cooked in the middle...kinda the opposite problem.

This is our first trailer with an oven. With the stone, we love it.

We used to use a pizza stone, others use a large ceramic floor tile. We switched to an air bake cookie sheet. It works better and is lighter and unbreakable. No more burned biscuits!

X2!
DW has been using a 14" X 9" cookie sheet upside down for the past few years with no problems.
I also installed a thermometer next to the oven on the counter and routed the probe into the oven. We can see the exact temp without opening the door. I know it's in Celsius, but there is a button for Fahrenheit.

It's not so much what you use. It's what works when you use it.

I used the square 12 inch tiles you find at the big box floor tile places, but found it broken in the oven after a few years. The air bake cookie sheet sounds like a great idea...

thx

Air flow does matter. Don't cover the holes on the bottom shelf of oven, they are there for a reason. And use search window on this site, there are approximately 100,000,000,000 threads on this site about it. Sorry, I should have used scientific notation, i'm sure somebody will correct me, lol.

I read somewhere that if you add a small battery operated fan under the burner that the heat would distribute more evenly...
and change where the thermistor is, the oven would heat more evenly...

just joking of course...

I use four 6" unglazed tiles, which have served well and are now in their third trailer. Cheap and seemingly unbreakable in this application.

I used a couple of bolts to hold a 1/4 inch aluminum plate in place on the bottom of the oven (above the burner). Size the plate as to not block the holes in the bottom of the oven. This was after going through several pizza stones.

That would work. Anything to dissipate heat and act as a heat sink will do, even a cast iron pan. I keep pizza stone in original packaging, which just barely fits oven during transport. Going on 3 years later, still good.

we use a cast iron double sided griddle, works well in the oven, it won't break and take it out for other uses when needed.

We use two Rutland fire (place) bricks. They fit great and don't cover the holes in the metal shelf. We lay them on top of the metal shelf that is above the pilot light rod. They work great and have never broken...can withstand heat 2700F.

WE liked the square one. Just be sure it allows venting all around for safe burn. We kept the foam and box that is was packed in and slid it back on before every move, after the oven was way cooled down. Hard to miss taking the box off when you stick your nose down there to light the pilot.

Has the fire bricks caused any scratching from movement while traveling?

Fireplace Bricks

Hi, two 9x4 1/2x1 1/4 fit great...I wrap them in non-slide shelf lining when we move from point to point. So, no they don't scratch the metal plate/shelf.
