Running lights as extra light at camp site
I have a friend who said that in the past he has seen TT's parked at sites that have the running lights on, and being used as extra lighting around the TT independent from truck. I know that there are issuses in doing this, but i cant figure out how it is done any thoughts. Thanks

I got an old 7 pin truck plug and put a fuse between 2 pins(sorry can't remember which ones right now) and at the campsite I can plug that in to the trailer plug to turn on my running lights. I'll look to see what pins they are and post on here.

Bingo, the prize winning answer. We've done this a few times. Looks really neat when a couple of campers adjacent to each other do it. It doesn't matter how many lights are hanging off everyone's awnings, the running lights STAND OUT.

I attached a female connector on each end, and after mashing them down some, they fit well in the trailer plug.

10 amp fuse plugs in perfectly to the top two sockets on the plug.
running lights come ON and the system is protecteced by the fuse.
I can wait to try this on our next excursion at fall days at jellystone.

If you want to really be popular with your neighbors, use an old-style turn signal flasher relay to jumper those top two terminals. The terminal blades are already curved and make a near perfect connection. The flasher is much easier to pack than the disco globe but will make you almost as popular! Ha ha ha!

All of this could make a person very popular indeed, especially with the people camped around them. Ya know, some people might get just a little bit p.o. with the gratuitous illumination of their site, especially the flashing variety.

I'll definitely try this simple approach this weekend, but even if it works I'm puzzled.
Why would there be power on the TT side of the 7-pin plug?? Is the black/top right connector always hot? Isn't power supposed to flow from the TV to the TT and not the other way around??
Like I said, I'm confused!

Power can flow both ways. The hot wire is what charges your battery. When at the CG the hot wire is powered by your battery. That is why you have a battery isolator on the TV. If you leave the TT attached to the TV you will not drain your TV battery.

I like to see people put up lights. Gives the campground some atmosphere. Especially where families camp. Kids seem to really like it. I know my grand kids do.
I know of some campgrounds where you usually don't see lights up and I can always go to one of those.
I don't always put mine up, but when I do they're turned off at 10pm. I try to be a good neighbor.

Since buying a trailer with a power awning, I have been leery of putting the lights in the awning track. This led to using the running lights.
I made a simple pigtail with an inline fuse (10A) and a switch. I used female spade connectors because of the large size of the slots on the trailer plug. I just squeezed them a little with a pair of pliers until they fit snugly. Since I store my trailer plug under my tank cover, I just leave the pigtail plugged in the whole camping trip. When I want to turn on the running lights, I just open the access hatch and flip the switch.
Here's a picture of the pigtail...(just made from things I had around the house.)

so according to this diagram, it's the green wire and the black wire that you plug into?

ok just had to take this 1 tick further.... Not saying what I am suggesting works but you could almost make your TT into your own lightshow to music with Music & Flash Interface this will allow steady on flash and flash to the beat..... sorry had to suggest it as a possibility for those that go to rock fest or country fest.
