Leaving the slide out when not in use will put you at risk of tearing the slide top awning ... increased UV and wind damage. If you look around, it is quite common to see torn slide-top awings at RV dealerships.

If you do a search, the topic was well-discussed previously.
The general concensus was that they were well worth the money, especially if ordered with the camper, as they are quite inexpensive then.
The only negative anyone could come up with was that they tended to flap a bit in the wind if you are camped in a windy and exposed area. We have never experienced that yet.
There are too many positives to list them all!
