Storing Equalizer Bars

Thanks to rockfordroo for the idea of using 2 inch PVC pipes to store the bar. I went down to the hardware store and bought two, 3 foot sections of ABS 2 inch pipe. I also bought 4 end caps and permanently attached one end cap to each 3 foot section of ABS pipe, put the bars in each pipe and just put on the other 2 caps. I just store the two pipes in the front storage compartment of the travel trailer, and that totally keeps the compartment clean. Thanks again rockfordroo for your idea that I modified.

And I just have a roll of paper towels and a plastic bag handy. I wipe the grease off and store in the front storage compartment of the travel trailer.

I found a storage spot on my Mini Lite - it's under the battery tray. To secure them, you could put a bicycle lock through the holes of the WDH bars.

Great idea, but do you then put the sewer hose in the bumper? Wouldn't the sewer hose then be greasy.

I just bought a tray for a long flower container that the bars fir into perfectly. I can store them under the camper. But I shall try your method. A plastic bag over the greasy parts would work.

Makes perfect sense, since that sliding point needs the friction for the sway control. If it's lubed, there's less friction and this less sway control.

Sway control bars

True, you are not supposed to lube the L bracket contact areas. That is your sway control and they have brake material on them and the L bracket for friction.

Along those lines, does anyone know if you have to replace those bars after the material wears down?

storage of sway control bars

I use a heavy duty plastic bag with a rubber band around the bars to keep it in place. I store them in the front compartment. I made a stand for the hitch that is locked to a chain around a trailer wheel.

Below the storage box you can see the end of a torsion bar. I installed a piece of 3" aluminum square tubing on each side of the trailer frame. They angle down slightly and are welded together under the center of the trailer. This helps keep the torsion bars in the tubing during storage or when moving around at home. This has definitely solved the problem of "what to do with the greasy torsion bars" at a campsite or at home.

The wife holds a walmart sack and I slip the greased end of the bar in the sack to be explicit. Then into the front compartment they go.

Purchased a PVC post at Lowes. Cut the PVC post the length of the bars. Placed end caps on the post. Mounted the post to the hitch just in front of the battery boxes. Keeps the bars and pins out of the way for storage. Also keep a set of gloves and a rag with the bars. Easy and inexpensive.

I'm surprised nobody has commented on this. Blue Ox WDH bars never get greasy so I don't have this problem.

I’m new to the forum, so looking for some clarification. I was once told the friction made at the point of contact between the bar and the bracket in the tongue for my style of weight distribution hitch is how the system prevents sway. Not sure if you have the same system but would be interested in others thoughts there. Thanks.

Equalizer Bars need no grease

Others should just read what Equalizer recommends, and what other people have written. The equalizer bars should not be greased, and should be clean. Look at the diagram that someone submitted that shows the only place you grease is above and below the receiver for the equalizer bars. Can’t we just put this to rest?
