When I RV - it works for me!

On my trips this year, and especially the current long one, I am finding out what things really work for me. In this thread, I’d like to share free or inexpensive things that we discovered work well and why - and invite everyone to do the same. Conversely, but without being too negative, what have you found doesn’t work or was not worth it?

Please try to include A PICTURE, cost, where you got it and why it works for you!

I’ll start...this is a free item I got at Costco-a Bulleit Bourbon box. It is perfect for holding my X-chocks, tools, and miscellaneous items like the kids helmets.

Yep. We carry a milk crate for extra cable hookups and extension cords. We also keep a pretty capable tool set at all times.

Hose help

My DW got these “Tupperware” boxes at Walmart for $5 each and they work great for storage and protection for water hookup and electric hook up items. You can store and protect your water hose, filter, pressure regulator, plumber’s tape, splitter and more! Same fore electrical cords and surge protectors.

Based on camping on the east coast where sudden rain is common, I also recommend drilling holes in the bottom to let rain water out.

Tool box on back. Made separate compartment inside the size of milk crate and it holds all the sewer assessories with holes in bottom of that compartment, rubber gloves, scissor jack, cooking tools, spare straps, tarps, stakes. Two rolling models are in front storage area with all our misc outdoor stuff, other is tools for setting up...(first one out, last one in) Crate with wood blocks for leveling...etc.

Very nice idea! Did the carrier on the back come with the unit, or did you have to add this?

That came with TT. Bolted on to frame...not bumper. 200 lb capacity. It folds up and locks in place if not needed. Box is bolted to tray with two metal staps underneath and nuts are inside the box.

We use these Hefty storage bins for packing our cloths. Seven of them fit over our bed almost like they were made for it. When we take our grandson for a weekend we give him 2 of them to pack in so no worries about suitcases, backpacks etc.
I also use milk crates that I got at Target for i think $4 each. Don't have a picture but they fit nicely in our pass through. One holds my hookup stuff. Hose, ele and water connections, cable etc. One holds everything for dumping the holding tanks, flush hose, fittings, gloves etc. There is one for all the other misc stuff and one for the grandsons toys. Because they are the same size it keeps the storage area neat.

I bought 20 quart Sterilite plastic bins to use in the pantry of our Rockwood 2608, one for each shelf of the pantry. That leaves extra space on each shelf for other nonfood items. Before a trip I pack food items into them at home and at the end of the trip take them back home without worrying about any unwanted "guests" finding any forgotten food items.

Mats

I got these inexpensive light weight mats at Home Depot for $2.50 each. One at the bottom of the stairs and one at the doorway, and we have a great system for keeping the floors clean.

My wife’s system is “I wish you could learn to wipe your feet.”

Big mats

I just realized a lot of dirt and sand is also kept out by our 9x6 mat we put in front of the door. I got two at camping world online - one for $14 and one for $7 with coupons, discounts and clearance sales. Saw the same at Walmart for $48. We have 2, but have only used one at a time.

Here's one of my favorite things:

Here's something that works great for us:

A rolling water jug! We got this one at a going-out-of-business sale at a Gander Mountain store for cheap. It replaced a plain H2O jug that I had modified by cutting the opening to 3" and capped with a PVC threaded pipe cap. Anyway... The majority of our camping is done in National and state parks without hook-ups, so to fill our fresh water tank I drop a small 12 volt submersible pump into the filled jug, and plug the pump in via a 12 volt cigarette lighter extension cord, (either running from the camper or the truck), and pump the water into the camper's holding tank through a short length of hose attached to the pump. I gave up the whole lifting heavy water jugs while holding a funnel years ago! And now with this nifty roller jug I don't even have to carry water from the campground spigot to the trailer anymore.

BTW: It has an 8 gallon capacity. Reliance "Hydroller". I think the original price on it at Gander Mountain was $39.99 (but we got it for 75% off that).

Milk crates

I also use a milk crate for storage. Dual purpose also to haul propane tanks to get filled.

Rear shelf for generator and fuel:

Details of removable mount:

And, yes I know that the gas cans are right below the vents for 2 propane fired appliances (Water heater and Fridge). I never run those with the gas cans in place. When we stop, the cans come out and get stored away from the car and trailer.
