FoxFi is part of PDANet. It only supports Android, but they have a PDANet for Apple here PdaNet -- Use your iPhone as a Wireless Router for your PC/Mac
But it requires jailbreaking your phone.
You can use it to create a wireless hotspot, but I use it mostly in the USB mode as it keeps your phone battery charged up that way. It cost like $20 (one time) and it works pretty good. In fact, I stay at a certain hotel near on of our plants, and their in-house wifi is horrible. If I want to watch something on netflix, I use my phone, with the USB tether to my laptop. I did try the wifi hotspot once or twice, it works pretty good.
I cannot speak to how well it works on an Iphone, but I am very pleased with the Android version.
