That's where you hang your travel door when you are using your 1 piece door when setup. There should also be a bungy cord to hold the door flat to the bottom of the bunk.

My first 2716g had a removable travel door with a pull out entry step where I hung the door on those hinges you pointed out and secured with the nearby bungy loop.

The new 2716g done away with a removable travel door and pull out entry step and made the steps into the travel door when setup.

As Mike said its for the travel door. You lift the door off its hinges on the camper and put the hinge pins in to those two metal brackets. It only goes on one way where you can then swing it up towards the camper and use that white elastic strap to go around the lock "ear" to hold it up.

Ok gotcha! Makes sense but I've always just tied the door open against the side of the camper. Thanks!

Just make sure to get it down before trying to "ram" the bunk closed. That will leave a mark if you don't
