When I am raising the top at about a foot, it makes a popping sound drops a bit then continues to rise. The cable has a bend in it but does not appear to be frayed. I have greased the two zerks underneath, that does not make a difference. Should I be concerned? I bought this las fall and am still learning the rig.

Check the guide tubes for the lift cables on the bottom corners of the camper. My old PUP had the screws loose, and some were broken where the tubes attached. You can see the screw heads on the corners from the outside.

If the cable is bent it sounds like its dropping when it comes off the spool and straightens out. That should be visibly observable with the top off.
