232ESP Canopy Opening

I have a 2019 232ESP. I would get swarms of bugs in at night with everything closed up. Finally found the problem. On the left side, both front and rear, there is a small opening in the canvas where it meets the roof. Just behind the valance fabric. The left side is fully attached and closed to the outside. Nothing appears to have come loose or separated. Appears to be "factory" installed that way.

My question is that normal? I plugged both with small towels. Before I proceed with a permanent fix does anyone know if the holes are part of the venting? I can do a solid or a flexible screen patch.
