80 watt solar panel w/controller

If I connect a portable 80 watt solar panel unit to my single 12 volt DC battery via alligator clips, do I need to disconnect the wiring from the inverter to safely charge the battery? Thanks for input.

No, but you do need to have a charge controller between the battery and the panel.

Do have controller

There is a controller. I just did not want unwanted voltage from panels to damage inverter is why I asked about disconnecting.
