Awning- wind limits ?

Headed out in the morning for trip #5 this year, 4 days at Assateague. My last pup didn't have an awning, and I've only used the awning on this pup 2x.

Well, for the first time this year, the weather forecast for my beach trip is calling for winds of 15-25mph.

At what wind speed is it recommended to stow the awning ?

I do have, and use, an awning tie down kit with the straps and corkscrew stakes.

Once you start to hear the banging time to bring it in. If you leave the unit bring it in. You will know the sound when it happens and just hope it's not to late if the wind picks up more.

I'm not far from you, and with the forecast these next few days, you better put it away and keep it away

x2 on not leaving it out. I lost two when we had our pups. First one, tied down and tipped. We had a microburst and it pulled it over the camper. Replaced and a few years later, didn't tip and the rainwater folded it in half. (Truthfully, that one didn't rip so I ordered a new frame from Dometic).

If you do put it out, don't forget a step ladder to put it away when the pup is up.

Aye, aye. The majority has it. It'll stay stowed this weekend. Thanks for the input.

WOW! This thread is 8 posts long already and no one has mentioned OldCoot's awning hold down kit. Makes the awning good to at least 20 mph. I wouldn't camp without it now.

Don't think it would work on a PUP.

I'll third the 12 mph mentioned by others. Also the never leave it out when you're away. My old RV had the manual kind that was a real pain to put up and take down and I did fudge those rules sometime. Of course, I also had the anti-flap clamps on it and a tie down system, so that would have helped. Had a friend on our church camp out at Fort Wilderness who left his out overnight and depended on the auto release feature to tip it for the rain. He woke up at 3:00 AM to the sound of the entire thing collapsing and pulling a large portion of the TT side with it. Not good. Ours was out but tipped and we didn't have an issue.

Well, I'm here now. And there's no way the awning is going up. Heck, I'm a bit worried that the whole pup will blow over on its side. I'm watching the roof sway to and fro.
Been steady 20-25mph since we got here at 2pm. And expecting 35mph winds tomorrow. We are rocking and rolling. And I'm having flashbacks to my Navy days in the North Atlantic. Feel like I need to "secure for sea"..... And worried that I'll start screaming "General Quarters" at oh-dark-thirty.

You need a couple of "The Claw" hold down gizmos. And some strong cables.

Jw, drive around the CG and find a big old MH to use as a wind block, then change spaces. I guess your awning concerns are over....
