Someone made a mess of things with a cob-job repair. The weakest link in the chain is the 14 AGW wire, which will create substantial resistance and a considerable voltage drop and current increase. The wire itself could fuse. Dumb.
Amazon can hook you up with decent 8 AGW wire for reasonable prices. I used this brand to setup my solar installation, and I like it. Super flexible with great insulation.
