Before I moved up to a travel trailer a GI entrenching tool and a pocket full of TP was all we had when boondocking in a tent.

We did it where the bears did it. Then covered it up like a cat.

Ah yes....the big black tank question. Took me a whole lot of questions also.

Full Disclosure. I loved, loved, my cassette toilet set up. IMHO it was stupid to go to a black tank on a pop up.

If your set up is like mine, the black tank is separate from the grey tank so the conventional wisdom of black then grey is moot.

I like water and electric sites as they tend to be more wooded. I am not a fan of the sewer sections which tend to be in open areas. I guess roots make installing sewers challenging. haha. Because of that, I carry a small 10 gallon blue tote to transport to the dump station.Yes. black holds 12 gallons so pay attention and dump when 3/4 full or buy the larger 15 gallon. I was used to dumping my 6 gallon cassette toilet so I was already used to jumping black every 3 days.

My procedure is to a bit of a pain. I hook up the tote to the tank and pull release, go insider and hold down the flusher get some fresh water into the tank to run into the tote. Then off to the dump station.

I rehook up the tote and then use a magic wand down the toilet to spray inside the black tank. Once I have sprayed 6-8 gallons I do a final dump station run.

Getting a sewer site would eliminate the dump runs but I enjoy wooded sites.

Many different ways to accomplish this. This is just my method that I thought I would share.

Vin.

Reading this has convinced me to get a "honey cart" so I can take care of the black water tank before breaking down the trailer. A lot of good advice here.
