Cable wrapped around pully
I have a 2004 Rockwood model 1980 and we just got back from camping and I was trying to raise the roof to clean it out but could raise the roof over an inch and this is what I found when I looked at the cable, how can I fix this easily? I thought either removing the bolts that hold the pulley the frame or loosen the whole pulley bracket and see If that would work. But the cable is under tension right now and I want to do this the safest way possible.

Can you post a pic of it? Sounds like you could chock the roof up and then take the tension off the cable and fix it. But as I said, a pic would help a lot.

That makes it much clearer.
Lower the top all the way and then while holding the cable taught by hand (or have someone else do it), wind the winch backward until you can work the cable back onto the drum. then it should work correctly.

I have tried to lower the top but when I try nothing happens, the pulley doesn’t go backwards , it feels like it is already down no friction at all when turning the handle. Is there another way to put it down?

Taking to dealer
I decided to take it to a dealer nearby and have them fix it since I don't want t take any chances with this cable under tension.
Thanks anyway for your help.

That seems awful high unless there's a lot more wrong than looks like.

They haven't actually seen it yet (I will drop it off after work) , he said they usually have to replace the cable but I really think if it could unwind I could rewind it and it would be fine. But without seeing it he can't give me a actual price he said he would rather estimate high and come in lower.

I took the popup to Erhardts Trailer upin Des Plaines and they fuxed it for me and even replaced a marker light cover that Inhave been mesning to replace and it was alot cheaper then quoted. $124.00 which I happy with.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know that you got it fixed and that the cost was pleasing. Not often that, that happens.
Oh, the video in that link is before it was repaired!
