Cassette toilet questions

so I am new to camping in a Pup...

mine has the thetford cassette toilet in it, we have kids under 5 so its needed and i really don't mind cleaning the tank as its super simple.

My question is the tank chemicals, i have seen people put it in the flush tank, and i have seen others put it in the waste tank.

whats right and wrong?

If you don't understand what i mean by flush and waste, when you flush the water used comes from the flush tank, if you put water in you get water out, if you put chemicals in you get chemicals out, no matter what they end up in the waste tank where its needed.

So when you flush your toilet, is it blue water or clear water?

Put chemical in the cassette itself with some water not the flush tank reservoir. I had one in a Jayco pup for over 10 years. About a 1/2 bottle is what I used. Flush is clear. Be sure to press the vent button on the cassette before you take the cap off the dump tube. If you are in the cold climates, drain the reservoir and activate the pump to winterize

thanks for the reply, I am in the south, if we freeze I am going further south

the reason i ask is the manual contradicts itself in my opinion

3. Rotate the waterfill funnel outwards, remove the cap and place the
extension on the waterfill funnel. Add the stated amount of
Thetford fresh water additive to the water tank. This ensures a better
and cleaner flush and keeps the water in the flush tank fresh.

4. Fill the water tank with clean water. Warning: keep water level
below the top of the water filling funnel.

5. Remove the extension and return to its original position on the
waste tank.

I had a StarCraft I just traded in a couple of months ago, it had a cassette toilet in it.
I put the blue stuff in both the water flush tank and the waste tank, when I flushed it the water came out blue, I figured the deodorizer would help keep it clean.
Just remember your not drinking that stuff so what can it hurt.
You will not hurt anything.

Only fill the flush side with water and watch the clear tube fill up and put the chem in the cassette with a little water to cover the bottom. They do make a pink chem that goes in the flush side that cleans the bowl but I never seen anybody use it

We had a Coleman popup for over 12 yrs with a cassette in it. I learned never to put anything in the flush water, just plain water. The chemicals in the blue stuff will ruin your seals, then one day no water to flush with. Just use about 4 oz of blue stuff in your waste tank and all should be good.

I have a 2008 282XRT with a Thetford C-402C RH cassette toilet. I've owned my trailer for less than 6mo and have not used the toilet yet, so I'm not an expert. The pink stuff that was mentioned above is Aquarinse. It is supposed to act as a lubricant for the seals as well as a deodorizer (lavender scent). I was looking on youtube for videos related to the thetford cassette toilet and I came across several videos by leisureshopdirect that had information about the toilets and chemicals for them. I didn't have any luck finding the aquarinse product on amazon or in my local RV store.
While on the subject of Thetford cassette toilet questions... I have a couple.
1) Is there anything bad about leaving water in the flush tank between camping trips and for extended periods of time (assuming there is no danger of freezing)?
2) If you want to empty the flush tank you have to run the pump till it empties. Is there any worry about damaging the pump during this process? I guess just stop pumping as soon as the water stops?
3) Any hints or tips on winterizing? Just empty the tanks? or is there more to it?
Thanks,

I thought of one more question also...
4) Do most people add water to the bowl just before they use the toilet or do they add water after they use it and let the water sit in the bowl between uses?
Thanks,

If you're going to pinch one, put water in the bowl first. If there's any "cling on residue" left, add enough water to cover it. Remember that cassette doesn't hold to much more than 5 gal and it will fill faster the more water you use. A TT probably hold 30 gal+
