That box does not look insulated at all! What is to keep it from freezing in the winter?

Antifreeze. You pour some down all the drains when winterizing. That way the Ptraps have some in them.

I got curious so now I am home and looked under my hw and low and behold, there is a black box just above the grey outlet..... have no idea what it could be either. the shower is right above it but that is plumbed into the grey tank that is directly under the shower drain.
The mystery box does have a small hole in it so it can't hold any liquid.

AH, didn`t realize it was a PuP. Oops! then my second guess is that it is for the trap!!!
