Door: Top latches pop out of wall, can't latch

After sliding the door in and nesting the door to latch the bottom, I end up with nearly an McG gap at the top. The pressure from the gap pulled the screws/latches out of the wall. We have already had this repaired once. Which they simply screwed the latches into a different part of the wall. Everything is leveled well, but I’m now left with the Velcro securing the top half of the door. Any resolves?

Have you checked the door itself, could that be bent? Otherwise I'd say you are not level but sounds like you have checked that.

Are you sure you don’t have the height raised too much? We’ve had a lot of things not work quite right, like the zippers, and it was always due to the roof being too high.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but we have this exact problem with our 2023 rockwood 2280BHESP. The top latches that secure the door to the roof popped out of the roof on our 2nd trip out and now we have about a 1 inch gap between the top of the door and the roof. There are no instructions to be found on adjusting our roof height (green string is not tight, but roof won't go up any more). We have used velcro but have to manually push against the roof to get the door to even touch the roof. Camper is level in every direction. While it is under warranty, we have already had a horrible experience with one service dept of a large RV dealership and are not thrilled about dealing with service again. Any suggestions on why the roof seems to not line up with the bottom of the camper?

We’ve found that 90% of our set-up problems started with the trailer being cranked up too high. When setting the door in place, we start trying BEFORE the green wire is taut, and then raise in short bursts until it lines up properly.

I have a 2280 BHESP and I HAD the same problem until a seasoned veteran showed me a trick. I am sure this is your normal routine, but just incase, unhitch your tow vehicle and make sure your are level. Then lower your stabilizer jacks. Then raise your roof. Now here is what is different:

Pushout the front bed just enough so that the doorway is clear. Then put your door in place including the velcro. Your sink and range will still be in the down position, so it is a bit of a back bender. After that set up as normal. I cannot tell you the physics of why this works, but it does. I have done it that way ever since I was shown it and I have had zero issued with the door not being firmly in place at the top and bottom.

A quick fix for the latches if they pull out again is the old carpenter's glue and toothpick routine. I can explain it further if you are not familiar with this.

Do you have any pictures of this?

We have the same model as yourself, albeit it's a 2023, and also had the same issue with the upper door gapping, and the latches pulling out from the pressure.

How we remedied the situation was to remove the Chrome Strip off the top of the door and reverse it so the chrome strip is now flush with the outer wall. That took care of the gapping problem for us. And also, when we go to latch the Chrome Strip to the outer wall, we also pull the roof inward so the strip meets the wall, and then latch. Problem solved. No more undue stress from pressure pulling.

It seems like the Chrome Strips were installed backwards in my opinion.

as someone else said the most common reason for that top of door issue is roof height. Those latches should be just off the top of the door. 1/8-1/4 inch. The "stack" of the cable as it winds/unwinds, clutch slipping and even air temp will all contribute to differences in height from one day to the next.

What I have see is the roof too high and it can't pull the door over because the latches don't touch or too low and the latches are below the door edge.

Keep in mind the roof system is highly adjustable. Front to back height can be changed. Fully open and fully closed stop positions. Keeping that dialed in prevents me from having these issues. When I first got the camper it was fine. 3 months later I had to adjust to raise 1/2 inch more than it was when I got it.
