Electric to Manual Winch

Hello. We are supposed to pick up our new pop up tomorrow and it has the PowerWinch on it installed from the factory. I have done a lot of research on these winches on this forum, other forums, YouTube, etc. There seems to be an above average failure rate with these units. So much so that I am most likely going to remove it and install a Goshen manual winch. The electric winch has so much torque that I doubt you could feel anything binding without something breaking first. I realize they are convenient and even necessary for someone with physical disabilities but I would feel more comfortable with a manual. Has anyone had a trouble free experience with these electric winches?

Congrats on your purchase. My first advice for you would be to grease the lift cables, including inside the winch.

We bought our 206STSE new as well, and when first lifting the roof the winch made horrible noises. That was my indication, and from owning previous popups, that the cables need greasing. ( seems bare minimum grease is all that is installed at time of build )

In addition, we Oiled the 4 corner cable chutes, and lubed the roof lift rails. We were good to go. We have smooth and easy operation all the way around.

A little pre-maintenance will give you a bit of sound mind.

Sadly, the dealers only do the bare minimum before getting them off their lots.

I have had 3 electric winches and never a bit of trouble out of either of them. Inspection and Maintenace is the key.

Electric vs. Manual, IMO is just a personal preference, although I would use either.

Thanks for the info. I still think that circuit board with the relays should be encased in epoxy to keep moisture away. It’s exposed directly to moisture.
