Sounds like the battery was so dead the converter was tripping on and off until the battery got enough charge to stay connected and charge up.

Can't think of anything else except an overloaded converter.

What's weird is that I hooked the charger up to see where it was, after a year of siting, it still was at 80%. I charged it for 10 mins max. Tried all the lights, nothing. I gave up and went to the beach and then to fireworks. Gone 6-8 hrs. Came back, and it looked like we had been having a powwow in the pup. Every interior light was up and running. Someone hired the electrical gnomes to come fix it up.

Did you use the voltage charge to capacity chart to calculate the 80%?
Curious as to how that number was arrived at.

The readout on the charger said it was at an 80% charge as it started to charge the battery. Not accurate?

I have a Rockwood 1940 and the two issues I've had with the electric were pretty basic and easy to fix. First had issue where plugged in land power and nothing worked that was because the GFCI plug popped I guess to to hitting a bump. But reset it and good to go. The second was I was using just battery power and had no power whatsoever, after checking a bit found a in-line 25 amp fuse on the wire harness just behind the battery. Replaced it and no further issues.

I don't see how I could hate a week with good friends at a great music festival. Might not have lights, but not planning in spending a ton of time in my pup. And at this point it seems like my lights are going to work as well, icing!!

Great advice. I will now be aware of both and check them. Thanks!!

Alright, one final attempt to to electrically self sufficient before heading out. Can anyone think of a reason why I cannot use the plug outlets when running on battery power? The lights work, the battery has a full charge, just none of the outlets work on battery power. They work when the camper is plugged into the house, but not on the battery power. Hmmmm??

They are not suppose to work. Unless someone has installed a unit called an inverter, the 110 volt outlets will not work while on battery power.

The plugs are 120V AC (the same as your house) and your battery puts out 12V DC. You would need a inverter to change the 12V DC into 120V AC but you will drain your battery very quickly trying to run any anything but a a small load on 120AC.

I think that was a simple typo, and was supposed to be "have a fun camping experience" .....not "hate a fun camping experience"

Aha! Then my brain can rest!! Was just hoping to run a small fan off the big batter rather than off a bunch of D batteries. Thanks for the help!

Happy, thanks for the heads up. Was just hoping to run a small fan or perhaps charge my phone. But now I will figure another way. At least I can let that frustration go. Thanks again.

I also hate it when my phone thinks it is smarter than me.

And yes, it will be FUN!

I guess your pop up doesn't have a ceiling exhaust fan??
Many of us have maxxair or fantastic or creatabreeze 12v fans in
our roof. Mine is right over the bed and we can have a nice downward
breeze any time. We use it all the time when camping off the grid.

I also have a little table clamp oscillating 2 speed fan that runs off
a cigarette socket 12v. I bought it years ago for tent camping at the
lake. You can still get them and I would not dry camp in summer
without one or the other!

Visit Amazon.com and search 12 volt fan in automotive.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...an%2Caps%2C220
You can see several examples. Walmart probably has them as well
but they're down for site maint and I can't check right at the moment.

Good luck and Happy Camping!
