HELP! Canvas softening and tearing!
I’m not sure where I went wrong. I think I used the wrong cleaning spray on the inside canvas and now the siding is so soft and tearing off of my 2014 Rockwood hw. No tape will stick 😞 I just bought this for our first family camper and I’m devastated.
Picture looks like it is upside down 🤦🏼*♀️

How long have you had the pop-up?
What cleaning spray did you use?
I suspect the canvass was not properly taken care of by the previous owner and the canvass dry rotted. Your cleaning probably accelerated the deterioration but not due to your neglect!
The good thing is the the specific canvass side that’s damaged can be replaced or patched, don’t sweat it!!

The company that makes most of the canvas is TJ Snuggles in Indiana. Send them a message with you model and see what they say.

It’s not the cheapest solution but you can replace sections of the tent. I believe the manufacturer of the tent section is:
T J Snuggles Inc Manufacturing Canvas
1851 Dogwood Rd, Bremen, IN 46506
(574) 546-4404

Call a marine upholstery shop. The canvas will have to be removed to repair it.

That looks like the bunkend side windows which is a different material from the rest of the synthetic tenting. I believe it's like Sunbrella which is breathable. Previously in the mid 2000 Rockwood used vinyl coated bunkend side window which did not breath and I got condensation if I didn't open up the corners of the windows at night.
Being so, a canvas repair shop should be able to sew in new panels for the side windows if that's all that's affected.
If all the tent is shot, many have recommended Bearcreek Canvas which is 100% cotton and breathable for the entire tent except the tops of the bunkends which is vinyl coated I believe. Fairly cheap for an entire tent at about $1200 but high quality from what others have said.
Good luck.

no the window fabric is not Sunbrella - they are just canvas (uncoated). The rest of the tenting is vinyl coated canvas. (The Coleman/Fleetwood brand popups used the Sunbrella fabric for the entire tenting and i believe it was exclusive to them)

Help! Canvas softening and tearing
When we still had our Jayco pop-up camper, I used this company to repair a window and fix some tears. They did a great job and I highly recommend them!

Looks like dry-rot to me. Any time canvas gets soft, and splits/rips that's a sign of dry-rot. Canvas dry-rot is often a cancer. I've had over 20 years experience with canvas dry-rot in Army tents. Once it starts, you can't stop it. Patch one area only to have it tear, rip or split in another area.

Just a thought, are you sure this was not done maybe by accident during close up/ talking down the RV after a camping?
To me it actually looks like it got 'caught' on something and ripped or something poked thru...
either way I loved my PUP and I know how you must feel. Good luck!!

It is a 6 year old camper... minor problem and take it as a learning experience... no spray cleaner will cause this problem...
It is a form of deterioration, but dry rot actually has little to do with rotting and everything to do with mold damage. Dry rot occurs when a fabric is exposed to moisture and doesn't dry completely, or when it has been stored in a humid environment. Microscopic mold and mildew spores drift in the air, and when moisture conditions are right, they settle into the fabric and grow. The spores break down cellulose fibers such as cotton, linen, bamboo, hemp, rayon and ramie. The fabric weakening, or dry rot, happens over a period of time and may not be noticeable until the deterioration is extreme.

I would look into the iron-on cotton canvas patch like my mom used on my jeans when I was a kid... amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Wrights-BDX23...8459274&sr=8-5
Then after checking repair/repalcement options do the repair in the off-season so you do not lose camping time.
