HW 296, tell me about the bathroom.
We currently have a Solair like the Roo 21SS. I'm thinking of downsizing to the biggest popup available I think the HW 296. There are none to look at locally and would be buried in snow anyway but I have a question about the bathroom. Any pictures I see look like it isn't actually private, there are big gaps around the door and walls. We used to have a Hi-Lo with a curtain around the bath and that was bad too. Is it possible to add some filler strips or foam weather strip to eliminate the gaps? Using the shower curtain on the inside seems like a pain and is not really private either.
Otherwise the HW looks great, we have had a Jayco popup in the past and really liked it compared to the limited sleeping area on the Hi-Lo. The current hybrid is great but I want to go back to getting awesome MPG towing and not worry about the distance of the trip eating up the budget.

Hard side on three sides, small gap between the canvas. If someone peaks around poke them in the eye, lessen learned. Seriously it works great a little small but it is a pop up.

we had a hw277, but i think the bathroom set up is the same between the two models. the bathroom has three hard walls with the camper tent making the back wall. there is a gap between the hard wall and the tent wall. not sure what you mean about gaps around the door, there is no gap around the door other than the gap at the top, but that is the whole bath - not just the door and it is covered by the little valance curtain. The door is in a frame and is latched into place after the walls are pulled up into position (the door is stored on the dinette when closing the camper).
We did not feel that we had a lot of privacy with the bathroom, so we never used it as a bathroom - we turned it into a closet. hung a second hanging wardrobe in it and it was the closet for the back bed occupants. i am not sure how well foam would work to close the side gaps - maybe a pool noodle would help out there - but that is a guess on my part as we never tried to close the gap.
There is a curtain that should go across the aisle, it makes a dressing room in front of the bathroom. the curtain should be wide enough to go between the dinette and the bathroom wall. That would offer some additional coverage for the gap along with the inside shower curtain.
you may want to pay attention to the waste tank sizes as well - the black and the grey tanks are only 12 gallons. we found the grey is way too small to be of any benefit (and of course we never used the black).
and unless they changed it since our 2010 hw - the tanks discharges are not linked together. They are separate so you need different set ups to dump the tanks.

We have a HW277 which has the same bathroom as the 296 and we love it! We are a family of four and use it every trip including for showers. In fact having the bathroom was a big reason we went with the highwall.
The privacy is acceptable when you have the shower curtain around the inside perimeter as it covers any gaps. Also when the exterior privacy curtain is retracted and off to the side it also helps block any gaps. And it’s nice when extended to be able to step out of the shower and change clothes. So privacy isn’t much of a problem.
However noise is - there is nothing to block that. Though if the A/C is on or a fan that definitely helps.
Overall we love our bathroom and wouldn’t give it up.

Sounds good, some of the YouTube videos I watched must not have fully set up the bathroom as there was a clear almost 1" gap in the front wall by the door.
Now the problem is the closest one is 8 hours away but I'm not going to deal with shopping a popup in the dead of winter.

You see right around 2:08 the gap. Every video I watch I see the same gap.

I don’t think mine has a gap like that - wish I had a picture to share. But also we have the shower liner up inside so it would cover any gaps anyway.

I think that the more important question is: Why does she have a barcode on her waist? Is she a robot?

Not to derail this thread, but you should know on the 296 you need to raise the roof to get to the fridge to turn on or load. That is a deal breaker for many. A 277 has it across from the door and is much more convenient.

Nah just a rental uniform company's way to keep track of it when it gets cleaned etc.

We used to crawl around on the floor in the dark on our old Jayco to get in or out of the fridge at quick stops. Is it totally blocked on the 296 when collapsed?
That is actually a big downside about the bathroom I haven't considered compared to our current hybrid. I used to ask if anyone needed a bathroom break wherever we passed a rest area or small town with services, with a standard camper the world is your rest area!

I think that the dinette slide out will block it when closed. We could not get past the closed dinette in our hw277.

Is this still true on the new 2020 model?

Yes. You would have to raise the roof up, slide the dinette out and go in just to turn on power to the fridge.

OK thank you. I was a bit confused/misread the posting. I thought the roof had to be "up" in order for the fridge to work. I see that (as it is in other pop ups) not the case.
Best wishes!

I have the 296 and yes you are correct, there are small gaps between the walls and where the door mounts, along with the gaps where the walls meet the canvas. Hanging the shower curtian takes care of that problem if you are overly shy. You can pee all week long and never fill the black water tank up, as for #2s I can't help you out there, they are verboten in my camper, it's a walk to the bath house.

Well that is changing my opinion a bit on the high wall. Now I'm thinking I might like the bigger tandem axle 282TESP if bathroom privacy is really just a curtain anyway. The fridge is across from the door on that one too. I really like those Black Series Australian campers, but they are very expensive, the ESP Rockwoods look like they would at least be fine on normal rough forest service roads, I'm not dragging something up an ATV trail. I actually wouldn't need a front deck that big but I like the tandem axle, maybe the 232ESP would be OK too.

I have the Flagstaff HW27KS with a huge gap in the toilet door frame, bigger than the one in the video! But I'm in my 31st year living with my husband so there's not much we haven't seen Like someone mentioned bathroom sound is more of an issue than the gap. You could run a piece of foam insulation strip along the frame to cover the gap.
