I'm not sure what the poster that you quoted did, but I just made up an adapter to go from the 1-1/2" threaded coupler on the PUP up to 3" diameter schedule 40 pipe (I used ABS so it would be black, but PVC would have worked just as easily), then put a valterra sewer hose connector on that.

When we have full hookups, I'll use 2 short (5') sewer hoses connected to a "Y", then a longer hose to the sewer connection and when we don't have full hookups and/or for shorter trips, I'll just switch my sewer hose between tanks as I empty them.
