Key for outside shower

I have lost my key that opens the outside shower compartment on my HW277 popup. Does anyone know if it’s a generic common type, or specific to my unit that I have to go back to the dealer?

Don't know about your rig, but on our tt, the storage compartment key and the shower key were the same one.

Likely a ch751 key. If so you can pick them up in hardware store or Amazon.

This thread mde me feel so dumb! I've owned our camper for 5 years now. There was a seperate key for the shower which had a black plastic coating on it. I read through the replies in here and saw everybody saying it was just a CH751. So I just walked out into the driveway to test my regular cargo bay (751) key in the shower. I can't believe I have been using two different keys when they were the same one.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Sounds like something I'd do and it made me laugh.

Are you really worried somebody's gonna steal your water?
I replaced my outside shower lock with a twist latch.

No issue is I can’t open the compartment to even use the shower hose without a key as it is locked.

I think what Boomer was getting at isnt referring to your situation at the current time of being locked out, but more along the lines of "why have it locked to begin with". But then again, I have mine locked as well, lol. To your specific problem, you probably have access to it with one of your keys.

To clarify myself for myself

Yes, the outside shower door won't stay shut unless locked. And there is no handle for it. I replaced my lock with a twist latch, same as the latch on the one side of my storage door, other side has the common lock.

Tampering or vandalism

I put a lock on my water heater compartment, too. It's not about someone stealing water or anything like that. It's to discourage someone from tampering or vandalizing our travel trailer. It's the same reason we always lock our cars if they are outside. We keep nothing stored in the car that anyone would steal, but I just want the comfort that no one can easily tamper with the car. We have a storage compartment in our 'wet bath' in our tiny TT and for some reason, it had one twist latch and one locking latch. Both latches are needed to ensure that the compartment is well sealed. That made no sense, so we changed out the lock with a twist latch. Was FR concerned that someone using the bath might steal our fall apart toilet paper when using the toilet?

Since ch751 locks are used on most rigs compartment doors I suggest to change them. Shower and water doors don’t matter.

The first one is the better deal.

Thanks all but 751 key doesn’t work. Must be some other kind. Frustrating...

Get out your flashlight and magnifying glass. Is there a number on the face of the lock? Post the number or a picture here.

That's my experience as well. CH751 is close but not the same. If I really wiggled the CH751 in the shower lock, I could get the shower open. The shower key would not open other lock.

If it were me, I'd order the replacement twitch latches others have recommended and then I'd use a screwdriver to force open the shower door in order to get inside to swap out the lock.

It is kind of silly that they use locks for these. If the door is anything like the one on my camper, you can probably open it without a key anyway.

I decided to replace all my outside locks (except door) with combination thumb latches/keyed locks. As I detailed in this thread - https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...s-41517-7.html - the outdoor shower uses a 3/4" lock, not a 7/8" lock like the rest of the doors. And it's shorter, too.

But it is SO much more convenient to have all the doors with twist latches, that can be locked when I want to. And DW is not complaining about me keeping the keys in my pocket.

Ryan, my outside shower key has the same cutting as my 751, but my 751 keys will not go into the lock, they used a different blank. I found an ILCO O1122 (Y11) blank would fit the keyway and had it cut to the 751 profile. The new key fits both baggage compartments and the shower door. Cheers Ed
