Lift winch causes top to slam down while raising

Hello!

We recently purchased a 2007 rockwood hw and really love it. Except it appears to have a fatal flaw. Every time we raise it it gets all the way to the top and slams down 3 feet. THe door has all but ripped off from the violent drop. We are both new to this type of camper and have no idea where to even start.

Has anyone else had this problem!

Thank you!

Think you purchased someone's reason to get rid of it.
Only thing I'm thinking at the moment, is there is a issue with the cable winch not locking onto the gear at that particular spot and then it free wheels back down till it catches again. Can you see the cable winch when cranking it up ? Could you watch it when it gets to that point and maybe see if it's slipping there.

I have to agree that it has to do with the cable winch.
If you don't see anything that jumps out at you as wrong, post a few pictures of the winch and maybe some of us will see something.
