Well without knowing exactly where it is, I’d say for an awning screen room

I can't remember what it's called, but it is an attachment point for canvas. Basically there is a special grommet on the canvas that slips over it then you turn the gizmo so the grommet won't come off. More common on boats, I think.

EDIT: Turn button fastener

Had those same catches on the ceiling of our 87 popup. Upper half of door would lift up and there were two of those that you'd lock the door to the ceiling for travel.

My grandfather had a custom marine-grade vinyl cover made that wrapped around the MH windshield and both front windows. He had marine turn buttons all the way around, about 10 inches apart.

However, you's appears to be factory, since it doesn't have 'ears' for screws or rivets, so I'm betting it isn't an add-on. Where on the PUP is it located?

It's called a turn button... I used one to secure our table in transport.

So, lacking further information...

I passed a popup the other day that had two rows of these turn buttons. A vertical row in line with each end of the awning. Definitely for a screen room or add-a-room.
