Motorized lift system flagstaff 2008 popup

Need Advise...I bought a used 2008 flagstaff mac 228 with motorized lift system. Long story short I got taken. Lift system bad, manual hex nut shirred off and motorized winch would not take top all the way up. Know you can adjust but now motor grinds and locks up. Im going to just replace the whole unit, grrrrrrr. Info says it is made by Power Winch. Would you put the same kind back in or change to a different brand? Notice someone said they made one now that doesn't have all that grease on the gears. Or get away from the motorized altogether?

Installing a new stronger motor would be cheaper. We have a 2017 Flagstaff 207 SE and the motor went out on our second camping trip. The Dealer did replace it, but if it goes out again I'll replace it with a stronger motor.

I am also irritated with the power lift system (limit switch problems, motor seems to be failing). We may be interested in going manual, but wonder if the roof on our 2013 palomino banshee is too heavy. The dealer informed us that they replaced to a heavier motor when the original owners complained about a lack of power with a roof sprayed with the heavy rhino liner type coating. Does anyone have experience in using a manual lift system with a coated roof and if the manual lift provides sufficient power?
