That is a detachable shelf that hooks onto a track on the outside of the trailer.

Yes that is the shelf, there is a GAS BBQ grill that usually comes with a camper and a gas hose inside a port under those tracks

RV manufacturers are now supplying griddles, instead of BBQ grills, as you can see in the pics.

I myself prefer the grill. I took our griddle and stored it in my shed where it hasn't moved in two years. I get a griddle when you're cooking for a large group of people, but for just the two of us, cooking on a griddle is no different than cooking in a frying pan. Not only do I not see any need to drag it along with us, it also frees up a little bit of storage space.
