Mystery Rod in HW296
Picked up our PUP a few weeks ago. At dealer check out there was an 18" rod with end caps in a cabinet. I asked the tech what it was for. He laughed and said every 296 comes with one, but they have no idea what it is for.
Does anyone here know?

Do you have a slideout? I read in a previous post that the rod is to stabilize a slideout (used as a wedge) during travel when the slideout is retracted.

Spurticus,
That's it. All the tech's had zero idea. Maybe I'll call tommorrow and see what the factory says.

Same problem here!! I saw it in the hanging pantry and couldn't figure out what it was...we just assumed it had something to do with the pantry!

My hanging wardrobe had that rod inserted in the top. We took it out, don't need it.

Maybe it goes to the long wardrobe if you can take out the shelf and hang it so you can hang clothes? Not sure though cause my hw has a flip down rod.

mystery rod
Received one in our 2514G as well. I have been using it as a prop stick to hold up the lid under the dinette seats and the lid under the couch....sort of a 3rd hand. Seems to be made for this as it holds them open at a good angle for easy access.

Ditto 61Cubby. Ours is also a 2514G, we also use it as a dinette seat prop. The dealer told us that is what it is for since the seat back support (nice ) prevents the seat from being lifted past about 70deg (not-so-nice )

We received one too in our 2016 HW277. I was thinking it may be a support pole for the dinette slide out (from the base of the slide out to the ground). Could be something equivalent to a third leg...

I have the answer! The nice folks at Roberts Sales said it's for the hanging wardrobe. He said if you take the shelves out, you can insert said rod and use it to hang clothes. Go figure. Thanks to this thread, guess I can use it for all sorts of things.

Now after reading this post I think I might get a pole or 2x4 and use it to hold up (help support) the slide out. Sounds like a great idea.
I think if it was used the slide out would last longer without dipping down in the back.
Great post..
Thanks

NO Guttafixit and Texas Rain don't support the slide out it is designed to have a slight slant. You could damage the slides when the pup moves

If I have all 4 jacks down how would it move? I wouldn't drive it under there. I would make sure that when some people sit it would hit the jack (pole) or whatever I fab. up. No one sitting in there it would have about 1/8" or 1/16" space.

I really haven't looked at the rails. Are they rugged enough to hold up for years? Or would they get weak over time? Guess I'll take a look at them next time I go out.
Thanks

Even when you set ur stab Jacks the pup moves a little (stab only stabilize nor lift or support the pup) if you put to much pressure on the stab Jacks you can damage the frame. Yes the pup don't move much but it does flex as most of us enter or exit at least.
