New to us tent trailer with short circuit.

We just bought a 2006 Flagstaff 175 LTD which has an electrical short. We received no info with the trailer. The power converter has a vertical row of fuses on its right side. The very bottom fuse is separated with a blank space from the top 4 above it. The top bank of four fuses are listed as #1 at the bottom and #4 at the top. #1 wire is blue. #2 is yellow. #3 is green and #4 is red. The top fuse (#4) is the bad circuit. Could someone save me a lot of trouble shooting and point me to what this circuit controls?

I gather your 12V fuse panel isn't labelled? If not, your only recourse is check which 12V system(s) in your rig are not working. Process of elimination.

Pull fuse 4 and check fridge, lights, water heater and furnace. If they all work, your good to go. If one doesn’t work, that’s the circuit to chase.

Maybe a vent fan.

And don't be confused by the "lights" statement. That does not include the "marker lights" on the outside; those are powered by the tow vehicle. It does include convenience lighting outside and inside.

When I was in high school, I thought I had a short circuit in my car because the battery would go dead overnight, but after driving, it would start right up. My friend's dad pointed out that that was the sign of a bad battery. A good battery takes time to charge up.

If that isn't your problem, higher cost volt-ohm meters will have a built in amp meter that will handle up to 10 amps. Pull your fuses and check the amp draw across the terminals of each.

Are you aware that the CO/Smoke detector will draw down your battery in a matter of days? If it has been left drawn down very long, it will trash your battery. Any time you go below about 50% of your battery capacity, you've damaged the battery and shortened its life.

Let us know what you find out.

Check everything that runs off 12vdc and the one not working is the problem. I am assuming the fuse is blowing when you replace it? Are you sure it is the right size fuse? Usually there is some designation what each fuse is supplying and the amp rating of the fuse but I am sure you have looked for that.
