Go with the Brake controller ... I have towed 25 years and if the trailer you buy has brakes then they should be used ... there will be a moment when you will be glad they were there ... Best of Luck

Now that is something that I would like to check out and maybe even give it a try.
Did you ever have any connection issues between the handheld and the trailer mounted receiver?

I went with dealer installed brake controller integrated into dash. Looks great, works awesome and ties in with onboard computer to determine mileage towed. This on our 2016 ecodiesel when purchased.

Beautiful truck! Rams are the best imho! I upgraded to a 2500 CTD and was surprised how much it rides and feels like the 1500. Love that blue!!

We did that also with our Ram. We paid the extra money for a Ram brake controller. It installed in the spot where it is supposed to be. Just a cleaner, better look to us.

Yes it has brakes. Why? I don’t know. Manufacturer says it weighs 2180#. Thanks. We bought the pop up because we have a dog, and we want to take him with us. The truck came as my wife’s lease was running out.
