I don't. I can barely get it to close without it being on the mattress.

Gunguy63, I think you have gone way past camping, and are entering into the pioneering survival stage.

Took the 31HW to Cherry Stone Family Campground in Va over the weekend. The weather was nasty at first but the weekend turned out to be really nice. Click image for larger version

Dutchmen,

Is that a pop up gizmo covering the bunk end in the photo? What you have appears to be much simpler to connect than what I have. I ordered a pair for my pup, but there are many bungees to connect to the point its a pain to mess with.

Yes it is a gizmo. They sell 3 models. 1. Regular 2. High wind 3. Super high wind. The super high wind is the one you probably have since it comes with 5 straps on each side of the bunk to keep it on during high winds. I got the High wind series. It comes with clamps that go along the seems and 2 bungee cords at the ends. In my opinion strong enough to keep it on and does the same thing. Plus I think that all those straps are a little unsightly for my liking. Keeps things dryer during wet weather and keeps the top of he bunks clean.

J. Dickinson FL - first test run

Found some minor but crucial fixes needed for our inaugural family trip to Fort DeSoto. Loved it.
