Pop up gizmos

I plan on going up 1" only. Just want to get past the rubber seals. I would not want the gizmo to end up short either.

I went just past the seals and applied the Velcro, then went back and staple it to the wood. The tape will hold it in place till it is stapled.

Would you recommend 1/2 inch or 3/4 staples?

Yeah. I think the plywood is only 1/2" thick. You definitely do NOT want to pierce the outside roof! That would be horrible.

Let me re-phrase my answer. I think I used 1/2, but could have used 3/8. Been a while....

So before you decide on a staple length, figure out how thick the roof is. lol.

Yes. But I'm almost positive mine is 3/4 in thick. If it wasn't raining like the next great flood, I would go outside and check. But right now, the trailer, parked in my back-side yard, appears to be parked in the everglades.

Well mine had 5 feet of snow fall on it here in Boston.

Put the gizmos to use this past weekend, along withe bunk liners. I was really impressed and pleased with how they work. They kept us warm, with the use of a small portable heater and the camper heater set on 68. Outside temp 38 lows. Was worth the money.

I too am curious about the retention of heat ability for these gizmos. I used homemade reflectix covers on my previous pop up. that material is thicker and has air holes in it. Intuitively you would think it would insulate better. it did work well. I am curious if the gizmos will be just as good. I am hopeful.

Not sure about heat retention, I only use mine for reflecting sunlight, keeping trailer cool and preventing stains from falling object; primarily from birds and pine trees.
And camping in a hot desert with plenty of sunlight, they do a great job of keeping the inside cooler....

Love the pop up gizmos, they kept us warm, the heater only went on every half hour instead every 15min. Temp 36.

Vinmaker, I like the idea of the reflectix as well, will be making some to fit the windows, only used one bunk end, the one we slept in. The wife is cold natured, she can be in the house with temps of 80 plus and still have on a coat. Lol and she said she could tell a difference . that sold me.

Which pop up gizmos is everybody getting,the reg ones or high winds, I would like to get a set for mine

I got the reg ones, and used the clams that came with gizmos, did not have any problems.

High wind! If you ever camp in places like ID, MT and WY you need a high wind set since winds are a common occurrence in these locations.

And if there is only one person I also highly suggest getting the velcro stip sewed onto the covers.

First time I tried to use mine they ended up back in the PU truck.
First, very windy day in southern Utah
Second the clamps won't hold a cover that keeps flying up and over the roof while trying to raise the roof
Third, if you are by yourself, there is no one to sacrifice to hold the cover while raising the roof.
When I returned, I send the cover in for velcro, and installed 1/2 velcro just inside the inner lip of the roof. Used industrial velcro, stuck it in place, and then used a staple gun about every six inches to staple it to the roof.
Now, even on a very windy day, it can be attached, roof raised (roof pinches it against the tent fabric when fully raised) with no problem.
