Popup procedure

My parents just bought a 2019 Flagstaff Sports Enthusiast Package popup trailer 23SCSE. The parents are in their late 70s, and I am trying to do up a procedure on setup and take down for them. Anyone have something already written? I am afraid that I am missing something (its been 7 years for me) and I know that they wont remember the walk thru. They need a written procedure that they can leave with the Popup, its been 43 years since they owned one.

Please someone help!

Just remember to pull out first, the dinette slide out tent right after getting the top up, and to push it in last, after bunkends are in, and you're ready to put top down.

Otherwise the dinette slide out tent can get ripped. That is what I have to keep reminding myself about.

Never had a slide out in the last 4 campers so this is new to me, especially with the pop up.

Man I don't think you can write something up on a brand new trailer using knowledge from a 7 year old trailer... so much new stuff these days...

Do a walkthrough and record the steps of taking down and setting up on a video on your cell phone and send it too them.

Have them review the video and write down the steps they think they need to remember...

If I was over 70... ( I am 70 now) I would not be getting a popup... too much work, which is why I went with a hybrid 5 years ago.

You can probably find a ton of YouTube videos on setup.
Just look for Rockwood or Flagstaff popup videos.

Unfortunately they already did the walk though and did not record anything. With my parents they need something written down. Dad who is turning 80 this year, will do the work he will not look at a video while setting up. Believe it or not they traded a 24' travel trailer for this. Dad figures why have something big when they only go camping 3 times a year.

I did the same thing except mine was 29'. The pop up is much cheaper to maintain as well. Cheaper insurance, plates, and preventive maintenance. I'm saving well over $1000/year right there.

As far as difficulty, the bunk boards are probably the hardest thing to do. You can use a drill for the stabilizers and roof has a lift system on it. Leveling is much easier and using that Bal single wheel jack/leveler, doesn't get any easier next to a travel trailers much longer leveling times.

The one piece door is a pain but much easier for shorter people.

Age doesn't matter, health is more of a concern. I work with a 70 year old guy who is better physically than a 46 year old guy i work with.

One thing handy for shorter folks is to build a 'Stuffer' pole. A 3 foot piece of PVC with a tee glued to one end for stuffing canvas in as you are bringing the top down. I saw an older couple doing this several years ago. She would lower the top and he would go around keeping the canvas tucked in neatly. They made a great team.

Hum, i just push it in with my hand as most do. Why would you need a pole?

This couple were pretty up there in years, 70+ at least, and were on the short side. They had a system that worked for them.

I want to thank you for the link. DW and I are going to use a Rockwood popup for the first time in years in July so I saved it to my laptop with our travel itinerary.

Just a note, I have a Rockwood too with dinette slide...after the trailer is leveled and the corner stability jacks are down (jacks for stabilizing only, not for leveling the trailer) and the roof is raised, you pull out the bed ends first and the dinette slide last. The dinette slide has top mounted wheels that the beds rest on (sometimes only one wheel for one bed depending on trailer layout) during travel and could be damaged if you pull out the dinette first (because wheels aren’t meant to roll sideways). When you break it down you want to push the dinette in first then go inside and push the dinette tent outward (towards the outside of trailer so it doesn’t get caught up on the beds corners as you slide them in) this way the beds don’t get caught on the dinette tent. At this point the beds should slide in pretty easy over the dinette rolling along the wheels that are screwed in to the top of the dinette walls. Sounds confusing but you’ll get the hang of it when you see it.

Those instructions are actually written up for their rental popups. They don't rent popups with dinette slides. http://www.robertssales.com/rentals.html

As you know not all popups have dinette slides and the instructions are good to start with. If your popup has the slide then you need to modify the instructions to fit.
