Roof crank

So I'm guessing like most things I've probably caused this problem myself. Bringing the roof down felt a little stiff to me so without doing much research popped the cover off of this added a bit of oil probably WD-40. But I was good to go until a couple of weeks later using it again it almost felt like it was completely seizing up.

Doing some research I'm thinking that there should be zero oil applied in this should be perfectly clean for proper operation. ??

Not a hundred percent sure but trying to figure out what I can do to get this thing back in order. It's not slipping or letting the roof slide down on its own and continues to be "overly tight" when trying to bring it down.

Thoughts? Don't really want to tear the entire thing apart as we're leaving in a couple days for a week-long trip.

not sure if what you did hurt or helped (we had an electric winch) - but there are other points for the lift system that need to be routinely lubricated in order to keep the whole system functioning well. you don't mention what camper you have or how old it is. that may help get better information from people.
my 2011 rockwood highwall had two grease zerks under the camper and the lift posts needed to be lubbed. I also don't think WD-40 is the product to use. There are several threads here about it.

Appreciate it. Didn't think I model would matter much in this case. I guess I kind of figured it was a standard crank. 2004 Flagstaff 228D. I'll look through the owner's manual to see if I have any fittings like you mentioned. Good to keep up with that stuff.

At the end of the day I think I've messed up more or less what the friction should be. I'm guessing other than the gears and bearings none of that should have any oil or grease on it.

Wondering if there's a way to get back to normal without rebuilding it.
