Should I have roof vent open if running furnace?

Might be a stupid question but asking out of caution. First time we have needed to run our furnace in our HW277 pop up. Should I have the roof vent open a little or is it safe given it has outside vent/exhaust? I didn’t see any guidance... thanks

You're good to go. You're correct as it does exhaust to the outside and will not be an issue inside.

Good advice already given about the furnace exhaust.

You might want to keep an eye out for condensation though, even in a pop-up.

Sometimes just keeping the roof vent cracked can cut down on moisture. You'd be surprised at how much condensate is produced just by breathing.

Thanks for note about condensation... will keep an eye out! Especially with 3 kids and 2 dogs lol.

If I have to run the furnace, then I always open each of the bunkend windows up in the corner. This establishes air flow through the camper to exchange out the moist warm air from our breathes.

Otherwise you'll get condensation droplets of water on the ceilings of the bunkends.

Also get some Popup Gizmos to help with condensation and to keep the canvas clean.

Cold weather notes to self:
1. Make sure window drains are open.
2. Bring windshield ice scraper in from truck.

On my pop--up (2000 Coleman) I opened a top corner on the bunk ends and cracked the roof vent. 2 adults and 3 kids at Lake Tahoe - 40 degree nights. Just like a tent, you WILL get condensation if you don't have ventilation. Condensation is a lot colder than slightly moving air. Don't ask me how I know.

Even in the much better insulated A-frame I crack the vent and one window (my side so DW doesn't complain).

IMHO an open vent will help tremendously to combat moisture buildup inside when running the heat. Maybe it's just living/camping in Texas, but it is what it is.

I agree with cracking a window. Actually woke up one morning thought there was a hole in the canvas because I was getting dripped on.

You might want to run your furnace for a half-hour to an hour or so before you intend to sleep in it because a new furnace will off-vent some foul smells until the manifold burns off all the oil or paint. Once it has fully heated up and ran a while, the smell won't return.
