Water Heater Anode Rod
Just got around to checking/changing the anode rod out on our recently purchased pop up. Glad I checked it as I dont think it was ever changed. Flushed the water heater tank out and had a lot of debris.
Picture of new and old rod.

Now there is a rod that gave it's entire life to that WH. Amazing how many see some pitting and think it's ready to replace. Time for a new one there.

It would be more interesting to know how many camping days (heater days) there was.

... and it may not matter if members are correct in saying water sitting in the tank between camping days also has an effect on anode rod sacrifice rate.

Also depends on the conductivity of the water. Water with a lot of minerals in it will conduct more than one without.

That rod didn't get that way yesterday, and in that condition it offers no protection at all, ... seems like one important question would be, how long has it been in that condition, meaning how long has the tank been without any protection? has the tank suffered any damage?

I only fired up the WH once, for a short time, to verified it worked and there are no visible leaks around the tank compartment so Im hoping Im ok......I guess time will tell.
