I've said this before but I think that it's just so they have a definite line. If you roll up in a motor home looking like cousin Eddie's

they can point to the rule. But if you come in with a trailer that's say 15 years old and still in pristine condition, they'll likely bend the rule a little.

It's just hard to put in the rules, "sorry but your rig is just too ugly."

my 2 cents,
we stay in state parks for the most part an frankly i don't give a rats a** what you camp in ours is a 21fbrs and its small one of the best families we have met camping was camping in a pop up that looked as if it was about to fall apart
best thing is they were having a blast and that's what camping is all about
i hate condescending butt holes that think they are better than others

So I just don't go where I am not wanted. My money spends quite well in other places. That's an easy call.
Sounds like that CG doesn’t have enough room in their sites for any rig with a slideout.

To the OP, don't feel too bad about being banned from a resort. I just watched this youtube video a couple of days ago where a very popular "Youtube RV couple", the Long Long Honeymoon was turned away from a casino because their 2003 Airstream was too old.

Riffraff is still riffraff. Welcome to the club.
My cousin, in Albuquerque, has her own campground, and they specialize in classics such as the canned ham and other beautiful old restored campers. She further narrows the field to ladies who own those campers...there are clubs.
She said she'd make an exception for family, but I suspect we'll be parked behind the out-house.

I know this is off the subject somewhat but I knew we were in for an interesting weekend when we were setup in a site near the tent area of a campground we were staying at and atleast a half dozen of smaller cars like Honda Civic's coming tooling in with mattresses strapped to the roof headed for the tent area...I guess that beats using an air mattress

I suppose we could compare this 'argument' with hotels:

- some allow pets, some don't
- some have two beds in a room, some don't
- most don't allow someone younger than 21 to register
- some say they are booked up when you call, yet if you just stop in they have one
- some require you to walk up flights of stairs, or take an elevator to your room, and
others you just park right in front of it
- some have breakfast, many don't
- most have wifi, most don't work well
- some have satellite tv channels, others very few cable channels
- most have 12p or 1p check-in times, I've seen others with 4pm - crazy
- some allow 'big rig' parking, most don't

etc

etc

I will never forget in our pop up days camping on the coast of Lake Michigan in the fall on a very windy night lying in bed thinking that the whole trailer was about to take off like a plane going down the runway. The beds where like wings in the wind and we could feel the whole trailer lift off the ground. Maybe the reason for no pop up's on the coast for Texas?

more than likely this is playing into someones thinking, along with waste self containment. but not all popups are the same. some of the high-wall units are double axle, huge and HEAVY! our previous camper was a flagstaff 625D, came in close to 4000 lbs loaded. not all of them are 6 or 8 foot box 1000 lbs rigs. and not all of them just crap and piss everywhere. lots of pups have bathrooms with black and grey tanks and are fully self contained.

i would be very interested to see why these places do not want pups at their sites. has anyone asked them why they are not allowed? i have only ever run into the restriction that they must be self contained.

Lots of Nascar tracks have spots in the infield or top of the turns. Most are restricted to “motorhomes” only. I never seen the Class A restriction but am sure it could happen. Those sites usually cost from $1500 to $4500 a week...or more.

We have permanent reservations at an outside trackside terrace FHU site at Bristol Speedway. It’s $550 for up to eight nights and I know of two pop ups that stay every race. Hope they keep camping there because their Louisiana Seafood Boil is awesome.

I'm from Texas what campground are you have trouble with? Specifically, and we'll tell you. Private campgrounds can be like country clubs, no membership, no entrance regardless of how "fancy" they are. The makes the rules.

I love seeing popups and tents at campgrounds populated mainly by hard-sided RVs. In a way, it gives me a sense of being at a place where I am really camping. So many people with popups set their sites up with additional tents and lean-to coverings for shelter from rain and sun. I think it is cool and I love seeing the innovation of these die-hard, real campers. They always look like they are having a good time, especially when there is a group of popups camping together.

Did that very thing from 1987 till 2007 when we bought our first TT. Always had at least 4 10x10 tarps in the popup and I'd hook them all together if we were out on a rainy weekend. The 4 kids had a dry place to play and the wife and I got to keep our sanity.

I would venture to guess that if a rv (motorized) is over 10 years old it has a lot of miles on it. They might worry that if the motor or tranny goes it might get stuck at the cg for an extended period of time?

Nah. That's what tow trucks are for.

And getting to the point that most do not allow detaching from your pickup truck bed mounted camper because "they don't like the look of the camper on stilts or they say it is unsafe". We have friends that have one of these rigs and they end up having to do a lot of dry camping or State Parks as a result. He maintains that when up on its stilts it's as stable as any RV sitting on wheels.
