Wow, Pop Up prices shot up to crazy crazy prices

I recently seen a Coachmen Clipper Pop up having a $30K MSRP so I checked Rockwood and sure enough prices shot up $7K to $12K more than they were shortly ago. HW277 now has a MSRP of $31K!! Some of the low end Freedom pop ups are now $20K MSRP.

Insane, I guess they don't want to sell them or just drive people away from camping. I showed some of the guys at work who were looking for a Pop Up, and they laughed and said you'd have to be crazy to buy a "TENT" for $30K.

I guess if they keep prices up like this we can say goodbye to Pop Ups because no one in their right mind is going to pay anywhere near. Maybe 60% or even 70% of those MSRP prices if the dealers are lucky!

Every model. My little GeoPro I got for 17.6k is over double that now. We have at least 3 more years of this.

Wow! I paid $34k for our 5er in Sep 2020. I just got a quote from RVW for $54k. Holy crap!

We bought our 5th wheel in October 2020 and the advertised price was 62.4K same dealer has the same unit listed for 86.9k

All RVs have gone up in price. So it's not surprising that popups now cost what TTs used to cost.

That works out a out right if you go to California you can get the fuel prices to match. So much for the old saying you get what you pay for!

Agree that all prices are going up and folks are spending their "European river cruise money" on stay-at-home camping. Not to mention 7% 2022 inflation predictions.

There are always people who will want popups. Easy to store in a garage, tow, sleep off the ground and lots of room for a family.
I agree that prices are ridiculous right now. I think that people who want to camp are going to pay the prices. It's supply and demand. Also, people feel like they can't put off til tomorrow because they don't know what tomorrow will bring.

We bought a HW 296 this past summer. Probably overpaid but the prices I see now for them are plus $3000 or more than we paid. We sold our Fleetwood 2006 pop up probably for a lot more than we should have so both new and used markets are crazy.

I think people are just going to get smarter in how they camp. I know people who have used cargo vans, conversion vans, pickup trucks and enclosed cargo trailers to camp in. Yeh, they don't have the amenities but they are weather tight and can be more comfortable than a tent.

And even so, many are going back to tents if they can be comfortable coupled to a large vehicle to bring folding beds and such.

Not many I know that are not in their 20s, want to tent camp but if the tent or the space can be made comfortable, they will go that route to get the camping experience.

Not many people I know anymore want to go out and buy a travel trailer at the expense they were pulling before these crazy prices hit.

Hence the reason the guys were asking me about Pop Up campers. I had to be honest in what they are charging. When I tell them what I paid back in 2019 for my very large, full amenity, pop up camper, it seems pretty reasonable to them. Not at $30K though which is over double what I paid for a fully loaded 14' box Premier Pop Up camper.

Just for comparison, I'm sharing a pic of my pop up's size compared to my previous Jayco 29' (Hitch to bumper) bunk model. I don't have the storage but the camper is definitely less cramped and closed in feeling.

Bought our 2021 Rockwood Freedom 2318G one year ago for 15K "out the door", MSRP is now a bit over 20k with dealers asking around 18 to 20k. Just part of inflation due to supply shortages....

I could had bought a nice travel trailer for $19K to $20K, but didn't want another.

My 2020 2716G in '19 was a bit above $14,000 out the door. No way would I pay anything near what prices are now.

We spent all summer looking for a USED popup. The grandkids want to camp in a popup instead of a TT. I could not believe what people were asking for their USED Popups...even the ones that would take a year of work to make usable. We saw early 90's models that people were asking over 10k for them.

One of the reasons I couldn't buy a used camper. I looked for over a year and came across what you did plus most were in terrible shape on top of high price.

I finally gave in and bought new for only a $1K - $3K more than what people were asking for used campers, travel trailers or Pop Ups.

People don't know how to negotiate prices and pay way to much. You should never pay over 75% (which is high) of MSRP, excluding dealer delivery and prep (which shouldn't be charged anyway). I refuse to pay for someone's mistake because they paid to much and expect me to do the same.

Plus with new I was able to get a warranty.

Good luck in getting one. I'd personally wait a year or two, when prices should start to normalize.

WOW! We just bought a 2017 21DK Roo for $19k - in excellent condition - would be hard pressed to pay more for a popup. We have a 2006 Rockwood popup we bought in 2015 - makes me wonder what it would go for.

Wow. Those prices. Our 2005 37'RDQS looks better and better. Its in great shape, the interior looks brand new. Only some of the decals have faded on the outside. The maroon ones.
