Dexter Crossed Over the Rainbow Bridge

Early this morning, one of our Doxie FurKids crossed over the Rainbow Bridge while we slept.

Dexter was a Black and Tan standard Dachshund we adopted from a rescue organization (DRNA) about 5 years ago when he was about 9 years old. We don't know much about his time before coming to us, other than it was hard. He was originally from Pennsylvania, and had been adopted and returned several times because he was a runner. When we got him, he had very little fur on his snout due to stress. And, yes, he liked to run. If he got out the door with out his leash, you were in for an hour of hide and chase - he loved it!

Under my wonderful wife's care, he gained weight and got his beautiful coat back. Dexter loved car rides and camping (you might have seen him at the rally in Goshen - he was the slightly overweight Doxie in the grass camping area), walks, his water fountain and of course his food.

The last few months were hard on Dexie, he had (we think) Cushing Disease which caused weight gain, bloating (a pot-belly appearance) increased appetite and thirst, panting, and weakness, all symptoms Dexie had. In the last few month he was only able to walk a few steps before having to rest.

One thing that can be said for sure, in the twilight of his life he was truly loved and returned that love tenfold.

We are going to miss Dexter terribly, but he will always be in our heart and thoughts as he romps around in Puppy Heaven with all our other pets and all the other puppies,

Rick & Deb

Hey Rick sorry for your loss.
I guess toby and your dexter are playing on the other side of the rainbow bridge.
Our thoughts are with you and your family during this sad time.

Turbs:

Thanks. Dexter never met another dog he didn't like or didn't like him, a lot like you said about Toby.

Our condolences on your loss of Toby. In some ways we're lucky, we have our two other FurKids, but it sure is hard tonight not having him at his normal spot at the end of the bed.

Rick

Chin up...

By now he just might have met up with our two old hounds, Happy and Trails, ... likely they're all already the best of friends and busy making plans to go and chase rabbits together...

So sorry for the loss of your buddy...dogs are such pure and good spirits. We're lucky to have them with us, even if only for such a seemingly short time...

Rick, sorry to hear about Dexie. We never get enough time with them and it's the toughest thing we ever have to do in our lives, IMHO. It's time to lean on your other two fur kids, they know what's up and they're always there for you when you're down. If another one comes along and it's "right," you'll know. Take care.

Sorry for your loss sounds like you gave him a good life after his rough first nine years, hang on to those good memorable times.

Sorry for your loss. It's never easy losing a pet.

Adopting a nine year old rescue dog with problems, you and your wife are very special people.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Our 15 year old Cocker is on our minds each day. She's deaf, partially blind, weak on her hind legs, but always happy to go camping.
