little help with puppy name

Looks like we will be getting a Golden Retriever. It will be a puppy and will be our second dog (currently have 6 yr old Golden).

It will be a girl and really having trouble picking out a name. Current Golden is named Kona. Usually we have two or three names picked out and then when we get a puppy one of them will just seem to fit right away.

So the hunt is on ... any suggestions for a name for a female Golden Retriever puppy would be greatly appreciated. Currently leaning toward Riley or Dakota (that is until tomorrow when we see one we like better)

Kona is a great beer and there are oh so many great beer names ....we named our last dog Boont after our favorite amber ale due to his color. You can fire up Beer advocate website & look thru names of golden & blond ales for ideas.

I have had my share of dogs in my lifetime, and always tried to have the name picked out. But, I have never called a puppy the name I have previously picked. Why? Because once I seen the pup, I would instantly notice a personality trait that would change my mind. My recommendation is to wait until you see your new family member and decide then.

Regardless of what you choose, please let us know of your final decision.

I've always been told a dog name should have a rising syllable at the end of the name so it gets their attention.

Like "Lady" *La-dee*

My dogs name is Bailey.

But then again, we've also had a sugar (chocolate lab, her full name was Brown Sugar) and she did just fine.

My 4 pound Yorkie is also called Bailey. We love It's a Wonderful Life, so the Bailey name was perfect.

I think it's funny when people give their dogs common, human names like David, Mike, or Andy. My vote would be for the name Jennifer.

My best Golden's name was Butterscotch. She was a great dog.

RIP Butterscotch.

Our chocolate lab was Guiness as in Guinness Extra Stout which she resembled not only in color but stature. Now have a rescue Bichon named PeeDee, granddogs Wikkett and Gizmo which are Lassoapso(sp?). Like others have said wait until you have the little beggar and it might just "tell" you its name.

If the breeder named the dog, keep the name.

Quick story about my mother. (rest her soul)

When I was a young child we got a puppy.
For about the first 3 months I thought the dog's name was Dammit.
Every time that dog did something, my mom would yell... "Aw.... Dammit!"

The young daughter of the breeder I purchased my male Boxer from named him Mace. It has turned out to be a perfect name. He is 75 lbs, sweet and non-aggressive, but when I am out walking the unsavory/trouble appearing types cross the street when they see us coming. In the dog park, even the bigger dogs leave him alone as he just wants to play and is non-aggressive, but won't allow an aggressive dog to put him in his place...Mace.

My kids have named our cats Miney and Griffin after Harry Potter characters. The dogs are huskies and named Dakota (rip) after where the breaded came from, Kila (short for tiquila) and a red headed one named Riesling (after the wine. And hopefully like a good wine, he get better with age)! Lol
Sister had 2 goldens name Crosby and Nash (after the band).

Once you have the pup in hand, usually the name comes to you and it fits.

Good luck with your new camping companion.

We named our female golden Ginger. She was a great dog. Had to put her down when she was only 10 years old due to a brain tumor. I still miss her. RIP Ginger.

X2... Our current dogs are litter mates, and their names grew on them....
Scrappy.... The runt and always trying to fight into the food...
JD...short for Juvenile delinquent, was always into something.
Bear (deceased) was born a day later and twice the size of the others.

We have a 6 year old female Golden named Luna... She is absolutely the best dog we've ever had. Awesome temperament great with kids and other dogs, she loves camping with us and especially loves hiking. She actually had a lot to do with us getting into the camping lifestyle and the name just seems to fit her personality.. maybe it will fit your future dogs personality...??

Couldn't help but attach a couple pics of Luna
Good luck with the new pup...!!
