I lasted 6 years, until I got a job as an animal control officer. I lasted about 4 weeks. 7 years later when this one is gone It will truly be the last.

We lost our sweet Abby 6 years ago next month. What a sweet baby she was and a great travel companion.
4 months later we got her lookalike, Chloe. Didn't want another. Didn't want the pain of that loss again. But time heals old wounds, doesn't it?

We have had many animals over our lifetime and it is the hardest thing to say goodbye. We have repeated the manta "no more" many times but it has never lasted long. We have a 19 year old right now and it will be hard again but we have decided not to repeat the past with "no more". It will now be "until the next one touches our heart". Besides our 8 year old will be lonely without her.

We have 3 aussies, my "first born" is 10 and still going strong. I cannot imagine the pain of losing any of them, but neither can I imagine not having dogs in my life. Congrats on your two new babies!! They are adorable!!

You cant do that. Starting a post with pics and not telling their story is against the rules, isn't it? C'mon, tell about these 2 darlings. Convince me to break that -No more dogs- rule.

I believe my two dogs and my cat as well, would want us to rescue more to give them the love they have. I am not looking forward to that time.

These dogs give us far more than we can ever give them.

Studies show people with dogs live richer, more fulfilling lives.

And if they didn't make our lives so much richer, then we wouldn't hate it so much when our beloved pets are called home.

To say "no more dogs" is actually to say, "No more rich, loving experiences for my life. I want my life to be barren and empty, free of the tail-wagging love that dogs share with us every day of their lives."

Famous Last Words

I said that after my last Lab then thought "Heck I'm 66 if I get a Pup he will probably outlive me so it will be his problem".

Our Golden Retriever Scout THE Dog had to go January 2018. At 14 1/2 years -- Good age for a GR. This is the first in over 45 years continuous I've been without a dog. Right now, waiting for the right one.

We sized our trailer with the anticipation of traveling with 5 dogs... 4 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and a German Shepherd/Hound rescue. Well.... one of the Cavvies died before delivery, and one has since died, so now our large trailer is plenty spacious for the 3 remaining pups.... .and now.... WE FOSTER !!!! We'll be able to give a needy foster dog lots of fun times, camping with us !!!
Adopt, don't shop !!!

That's probably one of the worst things about owning a pet. They up and die on you Then you're all sad, so what do you do to soothe your aching heart? Get another one. So it can die on you too. It's like when you're young, and have too much to drink, and swear you'll never do it again. And then next weekend, you're at it again. Not me man. Pet free since 1983. Luckily, my first dog was an undisciplined foul pee machine that would bite me. Cured. lol. Maybe when my wife leaves me, I'll feel differently!

Your dog probably didn't like your sense of humor, NJKris.

That’s strange; just last week I told my dog, Max, “NO MORE WIVES” He didn't seem surprised. 🙀

Funny how that works. I've stated multiple times the same thing, No More Dogs. My wife & I have always had two dogs most of our adult, married life.

Now we are down to one. Our discussion now, other dog is lonely, what do we do? Two dogs used to keep one another company, now having only one dog, he wants our attention more. Understandable!

Decision has come, we love dogs as pets, but camping does impose restrictions with pets (leaving them at RV for extended periods, traveling, sightseeing, etc).

They truly do give back twice the love to their humans. As painful as it gets I am not sure I could ever do without a canine companion. We have said 'not again' enough times we don't say it anymore. Life is too short!
