Pet Temperature Monitor

My family travels with two dogs in our camper. I am looking into a temperature monitoring system to keep track of the inside temp when we are away for longer periods of time.

Does anyone have experience with these units? And can you make any type of recommendation?

Thanks!

I can highly recommend Temp Stick by Ideal Sciences. No monthly fees and will alert you for high or low temperatures. We have been using it for several years and are very pleased.

This topic gets discussed every few months.

Here is a thread from just a week or so ago...
Pet-Monitoring

Keep in mind... those monitors that use WIFI are useless if the power in the campground goes out. You'll not get an alarm if the power kills the WIFI and you'd be believing all is OK when the pet actually could be in danger because your A/C isn't running either!

We use a couple of Blink wireless security cameras from Amazon. They do have a high temperature alarm function built in. We can see the dogs and also monitor the inside temperature.

Any system will require good Internet access, though.

We have a Verizon hot spot for internet and if there is a power loss it will run on battery for several hours. And the Temp Stick is battery powered. I wouldn't depend on CG wifi for monitoring temperatures.

Thanks

After your thoughts and reading other threads, I think I may look into a wifi hotspot through my wireless company. I agree that CG wifi is spotty and I like piece of mind.

We use Arlo cameras and a travel router along with a phone on a 3rd line with T-Mobile. I was looking into a hotspot, but with T-Mobile's military plan it was only another $20 to add a line with 45gb hotspot and you can option up for more monthly. Only caveat with T-Mobile is if it will work where you go.

One good one we're looking at is from RV Whisper. Not only does it have temperature/humidity sensors to plug into their product, but you can also monitor for power outages, water leaks, battery and propane levels. It uses cellular internet and battery backup, should power fail, to send you text message alerts no matter where you are.

Amazon has very cheap ($8/ea.) min max recording thermometers made for refrigerators. Right now, we're using one to see how hot our car gets in the sun.

Oh, and at risk of going off topic and getting deleted, I'll add -- they also work quite well in refrigerators! ; )

We use the marcell unit by sensored life. It connects with the Verizon cell towers (ATT is the other option) and you set hi/low temp/humidity and it also notifies you of power outage w/a battery backup. The subscription is around $12/month and you can also get a pkg that you can check the readings in real time for $2 a pop. Definitely worth having and not having to depend on shaky wifi.

What sensors do you have setup with your Monitor Station? What're you paying monthly for the service too?

no fee, just need to have a wifi hookup so on the road we use a mifi. We use 3 temp sensors, in the trailer for bunk room main area and under belly. We use 4 temp sensors in the two fridges and freezers. power monitors for battery life. and water leak sensors under pipes. Propane tank monitors.

Technically there is a yearly service fee of $45 as the remote monitoring goes to a server maintained by RV Whisper but it's not really enforced. I have opted to pay the fee as I support their product.
