Pet tie-out?

I recently noticed a trailer at the campground we were visiting that had a D-ring mounted to the side wall near the front door. It looked to be a factory install, in that the the ring folded down flush, so part of the mount was clearly recessed into the wall of the trailer. It looked to be a stainless steel plate, roughly 2.5" square, with a ring mounted on it.

I didn't think to take note of the brand of the trailer and it was gone when I went back to look.

It got me to wondering though - does anyone make an aftermarket sort of thing that would attach to the trailer with something like 3M automotive tape that a leash or tie-out cable could be attached to while we sit by the fire, for example? Our dogs are 30 pounds-ish, and I am not looking for a way to put them out by themselves, just to let them wander within reason while we are out there with them & not have to hang on to a leash the whole time.

While not fancy, I put 2 eye bolts in my frame. I have to crouch a bit to reach, but it's only 2x per camp.

Did the same on m steps. Easy to attach and stow away. Don't forget it when breaking camp.

I saw the pet tie out at the RV show about a month ago. My thoughts went immediately to vacation...."poor little pup probably kept up for the first mile or so"

There is a warning sticker on them to remeber to remove your pet before driving.

Have you considered one of those portable pet fences? I see them all the time at campgrounds and the pets and people seem to love them.

I attached d-rings to the perpendicular supports on my frame. Then run a cable with hasp through a 6 ft leash and connect to the d-rings. Cheap dog run.

Easily screws into pretty much anything but rock or asphalt with a long handles screwdriver through the tie down and a few twists. Ours like to lay on a rug near the fire when we are sitting around there so I alway put my chairs the farthest side of the fire ring from the camper, then measure out the length of our tie down leash (10' I think), and anchor away. that way they can lay next to us or the little one can lap dog it if she wants while on the tie down.

Being on the far side of the fire ring keeps others from tripping on the tie down and gives them room to wander off to potty. And yes, I pick up after them the next morning in the daylight but I don't walk minefields at night ;-)

Now that I have the toy hauler, if the weathers nice and not calling for rain, I put the patio up and they love laying out there in the sun.

"Lucy", the Chihuahua/Jack Russel Mix and "Biscuit" is a Mountain Cur. Both rescues.

I've seen the pet tie out on the Keystone Outback....They also have a pet kennel built in under the bed

The portable pet fences, aka X-Pens work great. In all our 15 years of travel in campers we have only had one location make us remove them. A very nice campground in Savannah, TN. We set them out late PM when we arrived and used as normal. Pets only in there when we were outside. Mid morning next day the owner came by and said the portable pens were not allowed and asked that we remove them.

Have the D ring on our new Salem. With two 80 lb goldens, a pet fence would simply be an agility drill. They are will behaved and not runners. Not sure the ring is robust enough for a large dog that gets a running start. However, once they are secured we can relax outside with them and not worry about them wandering next door to meet the neighbors.

we dry camp alot ... all my RV came with a dog tie out ... i use a plastic coated steel cable with clips on both ends, then just run the cable thru the wheel/rim and clip it to itself .. stay away from the valve stem .... has worked for years, i secure and gives the dog shade under the TT

I usually try to set up a coated cable between two trees and then hang a chain off of it to attach to his collar. This creates a run so he doesn't wrap himself around objects while he's exploring around the trailer. I tied 2 knots in the cable to keep him away from the trees so he doesn't wrap around it. I use a chain because he will, and has, chewed through a leash to get off of it. Goofy dog.

I also have 2 of those screw in the ground dog tie outs with D rings for the sites without good trees to use.

I think attaching the dog to a trailer is a pain because he will wrap himself around the stabilizers a dozen times.

Apparently a regular leash/chain/cable...is not sheik enough ? Fancy magnetic carabiner ? My 90lb lab wouldn't even slow down yanking that off of whatever it's attached to. The "Pet Leash" D-ring built in ? the way these units are built, it wouldn't last two minutes with our dogs.

The trending suggestion is to screw an eyebolt to the side of the trailer. This is a better option. On the point about your 90lb lab pulling it off, you're wrong. These are used to dredge junk from the bottom of rivers.
