Screen Door Protection

Just checking to see if there is anything out there ready made besides plexiglass to cover the bottom of a screen door to keep pets from scratching up the screen? I've seen one site out there on the internet but wasn't impressed with the cost. [emoji15]. Thanks so much...sorry if this has been covered. I'm new to the site. Just traded my sliding glass door RV for a regular door type.

I used this:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/The-Hillman...-Metal/3049409

Really easy to work with and to install....just drill a few small holes in the door and attach with screws.

It has done a great job protecting the screens

We replaced the screen with "Pet Resistant" screen material that we bought from Wal-Mart. it was pretty easy to replace the old screen material. I did it myself and it only took me about 20 minutes. It's made of a more vinyl feeling material that regular screens. It worked great for my fur babies, before we sold the TT.

We bought a sheet of plexiglass (or its functional equivalent) at Home Depot for less than $10. We installed it with mirror clips, but if you don't want to drill holes in your door you can stick it up with Velcro.

I just bought a small sheet of particleboard, painted it black, and inserted it in the channels behind the screen. It'll block the screen,preventing damage , but more importantly, it will block the visual stimulus the can lead to barking. It won't stand up to a determined dog, but for $1.73 CAD (approx 3 cents US ) it works for me!

Went to Lowes and bought white plastic lattice and cut it to fit the screen door. Dogs can't tear the screen but we still get a good air flow through it. Click image for larger version

This is the idea I have been trying to find, not for the dog, ours does not scratch the screen door, but, because when the AC is on I would like to keep my door still open for light and not have the darkness inside with the door closed all the time. Great idea,I might be doing this very soon. Tks

the thread below shows what I did with full door panel,... we love the results, being able to have the doors(we have two doors) open even with heat or ac going, ....

I should have read this earlier. Very first camping trip with new TT. Left our 3 small dogs in the trailer for a couple hours. Came back and they had shredded the screen door. Now time to modify…

I love the acrylic idea but it was more expensive than I wanted to do. I just got a piece of pressboard (same section of the store as sheet acrylic). I painted it and slid it into the channel next to the screen. Looks factory and easy to remove if I decide I don't like it. Won't last forever if the dogs scratch, but mine don't bother.Click image for larger version

I have plexiglas mounted to the lower door section using Scotch brand fastner (like velcro). It is black, so when the plexi is removed you do not notice them too much. When attached the back of the strips were white, so that shows thru the plexi, but oh well. Keeps our dog happy and keeps her from going thru it.

We have a similar tale of woe:
SECOND trip with TT;
ONE small dog;
Not shredded, but she put a good gash on the edge.

I guess she thought I hadn't used enuf duct tape in awhile...

Replaced the torn screen without taking the door down. Reused original spline. Looks perfect!

Added vinyl lattice as Camp-n-Nut showed. I didn't use screws though; I beveled the edges on the sides to fit into the groove in the screen door. Running a bead of silicone along top & bottom edges for secure fit.

Thanks, Camp-n-Nut!

I used a "residential" screen door protector. It fit good, just the mounting bars were too long so shortened them with a cutting wheel.

They had holes for the top part to screw into the screen door aluminum frame, and for the bottom, I had to get a piece of oak, cut to length for the outside because the screen panel is of course cheap "plasticized cardboard" or whatever and wouldn't hold the screws. Pics

Used additional screws through the lower panel to make sure the oak was secure.

That looks really nice, Dano! I especially like how your pup is looking it over!
