340RK Axle

We have a Columbus 340RK that is only about six months old so the warranty still applies. I noticed that the door side, front tire is wearing on the outside edge. The other tires are just fine. The service department where I had it in for some repairs said that leaving the fresh water tank full when towing would cause that. Just doesn't sound right to me. They are going to check with the factory to see what they say. Has anyone else heard this before? Thanks for any input.

BS in my opinon. If you can't haul fresh water without damaging something then the build quality is sub par. Sounds like a bent axle to me.
Why would they put the weight of a full fresh water tank on the cargo sticker if it wasn't advised to haul it?

Suspect the axle is either bent or mis-aligned. Measure between the tires or better yet, between the spindles on both sides to get some idea.

Wow never heard that before ask for it in writing:rollback: There is a problem with the axle (bent?)
It's hard to believe that they would expect people to trust them.

Axle

Sounds fishy to me. I have had axle and slide issues with my 340RK. Go directly to Columbus warranty department or even Lippert. If dealer is hasing you. I have had to do this yo get anything done.
Good luck

Found this on the Columbus RV Group FB page today. Seems the NHTSA has given Lippert and FR until May 9th to provide ALL the documentation regarding this VERY SERIOUS ISSUE! More to follow as it becomes available!

If you haven't filed a compliant with the NHTSA, it's not too late! Please go to their website and file, even if you have had the repairs done, it is imperative that we get ALL the information out there to hopefully force a recall and prevent someone from getting seriously injured and/or worse, killed. THANKS!

Sye wouldn't that apply to all axles no matter if it's a Columbus or not. I don't know don't they use the same axle on other models to, or is it a special axle for Columbus only?

As far as I know, yes it would. They make axles for all of the campers, Columbus is the ones that the original complaint was logged against. So now it is an issue with all of the FR products that use Lippert Axles. The investigation begins.

Highlights the importance of reporting safety related issues to the proper authorities.

Thanks for all of the input. It is treaty appreciated. When the service department started with their lame explanation I was immediately suspicious, but I wanted to see if anyone had heard of problems when carrying a full fresh water tank. I will call Columbus if I can find a number. Does anyone happen to have a good number for warranty issues?

Axles

Go to the Pamamino website. Under columbus there is a contact section. The numbers are there to call, or you can send them an e-mail.
They are usually fairly quick to reply.
Good luck
